A Famous Win
Beautifulnightmare (Devil His Due - Hey Ghaz by Ghazi) was scratched, leaving just 5 to run on the good track. Famous Rose (Forest Danger - Famous Story by Rahy) was the even-money choice, but Rhondda Gardens (Flower Alley - Catchy Patton by Patton) took some money as well. Third Row Center (Rockport Harbor - Retained by Star of the Crop) was almost 6-1. Famous Rose was a little stubborn at the load. Bangzoomtothemoon (Malibu Moon - Kona Kat by Mountain Cat) was restless in the gate, and had to be backed out. Then, she required a girth adjustment. This was a little bit of an adventure, because she was being feisty and was quite free with her feet. Finally, Channing Hill hopped back on and they loaded her up again. First-timer Jan Beth Jo (Chief Seattle - Nasty Cure by Cure the Blues) was off slowly, and gave the rest a head start. Favorite Famouse Rose went to the lead. She was pursued by Rhondda Gardens. There was a bit of a break back to Third Row Center and Bangzoomtothemoon, who raced together. Famous Rose lengthed her lead after a half. Making a move to enter the picture was Jan Beth Jo. She took second, and put a dent in Famous Rose's lead. But, she was no real threat for the top spot, with Famous Rose coming home 3 lengths in front. Rhonnda Gardens just held Bangzoomtothemoon for third, and Third Row Center trailed the field. Famous Rose won like an odds-on should, but Jan Beth Jo delivered a nice debut after a slow start.
