Stakes Result

Texas Tempest (filly; Bernardini - Copelan's Bid Gal by Copelan) finished 6th (last) in the 6.5 furlong El Paso Times Stakes at Sunland Park. However, she didn't run that badly, as there wasn't much distance between first and last. The race was probably a little short for her. The winner was Angel At Home (Seeking a Home - Missy Cherub by Corwyn Bay (IRE)). Watch the Replay.

Free Entry to the Winner's Circle

The track was fast. Whistlin' Dixie (Dixie Union - Innes by A. P. Indy) was scratched, allowing AE entrant Escort (First Samurai - Guide by Pulpit) to run. He looked good on the track. Bettors had trouble settling on a favorite, first fingering Simbamangu (Tale of the Cat - Chitka by Jade Hunter) and then settling on Free Entry (Tale of the Cat - Preachtothechoir by Pulpit). Rocked (Henny Hughes - Potential Pleasure by Unbridled) was 8-1, and Bluegrass Chat (Bluegrass Cat - Reason to Talk by Sabona) was 52-1. Seven first-time starters in the field, but the load was pretty smooth, although it seemed to take forever. Silver Cloud (Rahy - Silver Clipper by Silver Deputy) sprinted to the lead, with Escort pressing. Simbamangu and Voyles (Officer - Yes It's Gold by Yes It's True) were up close as well. Silver Cloud continued to lead, battling with Simbamangu. But, Free Entry came running, and rolled by them all. A nice looking win for this son of Tale of the Cat. Silver Cloud outfought Simbamangu for the place spot. Both Rocked and Bluegrass Chat were off slowly. Rocked passed a few to finish 6th, Bluegrass Chat never got going and finished 12th (last). Harbor Kid might be one to watch, being a brother to Duckhorn who himself was a pretty darn good race horse, and a cool cat too.
