Ipswich Bay Draws In and Draws Off

News and Notes

Racing was canceled at Parx Racing, so once again Calvados (Henny Hughes - Morning Time by Gilded Time) and Kiwi Humor (Bluegrass Cat - High Humor by Distorted Humor) stayed in the barn. Since we lost this race, I will recap the 6th at Tampa Bay, where Ipswich Bay (Rockport Harbor - Bolaro by Sandpit (BRZ)) drew in off the AE list. Littlegreatone (Bernardini - Megahertz (GB) by Pivotal (GB)), also on the AE list for that one, did not get in. By the way, I made the decision to recap this race before I knew the outcome!

Ipswich Bay Draws In and Draws Off

Just Maid (El Corredor - Broad Path by Broad Brush) was scratched, allowing Ipswich Bay (Rockport Harbor - Bolaro by Sandpit (BRZ)) to run. The other AEs were scratched, including Littlegreatone (Bernardini - Megahertz (GB) by Pivotal (GB)). Maggy Mac (El Prado (IRE) - Blue Sky High by Unbridled) was favored, while Ipswich Bay was 10-1. The turf was firm. Ipswich Bay was a tad reluctant to load. She had good early energy in the race, but was back a bit on account of her outside post. Ms. Lydian (Maria's Mon - Adorable Lydia by Carson City) led the way early, with Open Agenda (More Than Ready - Uninhibited Song by Unbridled's Song) and Miss Euphoria (Aragorn (IRE) - Miss Audrey by Grand Slam) her nearest pursuers. Favorite Maggy Mac was not far off. Ipswich Bay was not too far back, but she went very wide on the turn. Miss Lydia continued to lead, with Open Agenda chasing. Ipswich Bay really began moving on the far turn. She was wide, but had plenty of run, and motored on by for a smart win. Start Street (Jump Start - Ayres Hall by Jade Hunter) was flying late, but settled for second. Seamless (Arch - Sanserif (IRE) by Fasliyev) picked up some spots for third. Watch the Replay.

The Fed Wins With Ease

Quick to Strike (Henny Hughes - Flapper Dancer by Fappiano) was scratched, leaving 5 to run on the good Inner track. The Fed Eased (Montbrook - Valid Invitation by Take Me Out) opened at 1-9, and stayed there. Hughes Next (Henny Hughes - Offtheoldblock by A. P. Indy) was 7-1. Hughes Next looked good, but The Fed Eased looked like a monster. Thisskysabeauty (Sky Mesa - Lovely Beauty by Robyn Dancer) certainly is a beauty. He is the first horse trained by former jockey Andrew Lakeman. Not Now Ashley (Tiznow - Ashley Darling by Storm Creek) stumbled at the break, but still went for the early lead. Up with him was The Fed Eased, who also stumbled at the start. The Fed Eased soon was in front. Not Now Ashley kept pace for a bit, then began to fall back. Infallible (Yes It's True - Proud Ciel by Septieme Ciel) took up the chase, but it was futile. The Fed Eased cruised to a 7 1/4 length victory. Infallible was clear in second, and Thisskysabeauty caught Not Now Ashley late for third. Hughes Next brought up the rear in 5th. Watch the Replay.

No Catching Caribbean Beau

The track was fast. The bettors had trouble deciding between Caribbean Beau (Songandaprayer - Spencers Storm by Old Trieste) and Easy Argument (Closing Argument - Palenki by Pembroke), making Easy Argument the slight favorite at post time. Rock N Heart (Rockport Harbor - Prohibido Olividar by Mister Jolie) was 7-1. Caribbean Beau went to the lead. Sheeba the Shark (Exchange Rate - Invitetheblues by Cure the Blues), Bergkamp (Roar of the Tiger - Comet Crossing by Comet Shine), and Cat Fan (Forest Wildcat - Boom Bah Yay by Rahy) took after him. Rock N Heart and Easy Argument bumped at the start and were near the back. Caribbean Beau began to put a little distance on the field, and then a little more distance, and then even more. He went on to win by 8 lengths. Cat Fan chased him in second, and Easy Argument recovered to run third. Rock N Heart was never much involved after his bump, finishing 7th. Watch the Replay.

Don from PA/DE

Crossbow was strong and brave nice to see him win and beat a really good other young horse...but at this point all the sprinters will be running behind Fort Hughes, he will be looking back to see which horse will be second to him, FH. The horse , JW Blue, who beat a nice trying Bluegrass Jam, loves the distance, closes like a freight train to the wire, was happy to see him win again, like he did and impressed me at DP this fall, A.Dutrow is doing a good job with him as he beat some pretty good and promising 3yr olds, check out the stretch run by JW, wouldlike to see him work his way up in class...exacta was $116.00 Don

I'll take my chances on Crossbow, but since both horses are owned by Darley, they are not likely to run in the same races anyway. I think they are eventually going to try and stretch Crossbow out - they won't do that with Fort Hughes.

Stay Thirsty worked at Palm Meadows today, 3 furlongs in 37. I find it interesting that Uncle Mo went 3 in 39 and 4/5. I'm sure Todd wanted nothing more from them then to just stretch their legs, so Stay Thirsty working almost 3 seconds faster makes me wonder if that colt was just jumping out of his skin. I'm really eager to see how he's developed. I know he's not on a lot of Derby lists, but I think he's very talented and a colt that could surprise people this spring

30 Jan 2011 11:42 AM

I think Achieving may have drawn in. Per the FG website, there were 5 or 6 scratches and Achieving is listed as having a jockey change.
