February 10 Results

Stakes Result

Buffum (Bernardini - Storm Beauty by Storm Cat) sat off the pace in the mile UAE 2000 Guineas (UAE - III) at Meydan, made a nice move on the outside to hit the lead, but couldn't sustain it and finished 5th. He wasn't too far off winner Splash Point (Street Cry (IRE) - Dianehill (IRE) by Danehill), who outfinished heavy favorite Zanamar (SAF) (Fort Wood - Zanakiya by Doyoun (IRE) by Zanakiya (FR)). Splash Point had finished second, behind Zanamar, in the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial at Meydan on January 20. Splash Point is a 2008 colt, owned by Sheik Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum, and was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm. It was a good effort for Buffum, who should move forward. The replay can be found here. Read more about the UAE 2000 Guineas here.

Other February 10 Results

Zayda (colt; Bluegrass Cat - Winter Solstice by Unbridled) closed to finish third in race 7 at Golden Gate, a 1 1/16 mile Allowance Race. Watch the Replay.

Another Silver Oak (colt; Bluegrass Cat - Off the Richter by Richter Scale) was fourth in race 6 at Laurel, a 5 furlong Claiming race (Claiming Price $35,000), after being bumped and pinched back at the start. He was also fractious in the gate. So, not the best outing for him, but he was moving well late. Watch the Replay.

August High (filly; Rockport Harbor - Hot August Nights by Summer Squall) finished fourth in race 9 at Fair Grounds, a mile and 70 yard Maiden Claiming race (Claiming Price $15,000), after being part of the pace early. Watch the Replay.

Bowman's Cause the Winning One

Magnet Cove (Aptitude - Toni DeNitto by Quiet American) was the only scratch, and the track was fast. Pleasant Run (Pleasant Tap - Dixie Bust by Dixieland Band), a fast-closing second last time, was the favorite at first flash, but Hammersmith (Johannesburg - Bella Bellucci by French Deputy) got the nod at post time. Where's the Beef (Rockport Harbor - Clair de Lune by Regal Classic) was 32-1. Pleasant Run had plenty of bounce in the paddock, and Stormberg (Storm Cat - Serena's Song by Rahy) made a good appearance on the track. Volcano Run (Congrats - Editors Shake by Editor's Note) set the early pace, pursued by Where's the Beef and Charlies Swell (Malibu Moon - Little Indian Girl by Indian Charlie). Where's the Beef moved even with Volcano Run, and then took the lead, as Volcano Run began to fade. It was a short-lived lead, however, as both Charlies Swell and Bowman's Causeway (Giant's Causeway - Victory Encounter by Victory Speech) were surging. They quickly separated from the others, with Bowman's Causeway getting the upper hand late. Charlies Swell was more than 5 in front of third-place Praetereo (Giant's Causeway - Deb's Charm by Silver Charm), who got by a tiring Where's the Beef late. 1 1/8 miles might be a tad too far for Where's the Beef. I wouldn't mind seeing him cut back. Watch the Replay.

Lunch Time Diva Answers the Bell

There were no scratches, and the turf was firm. Lunch Time Diva (Posse - Riverman's Tea by Riverman) was favored. Blue Grass Music (Bluegrass Cat - Killoe by Kris S.) was 9-1. I kind of liked the look of longshot Lemon Drop Ridge (Lemon Drop Kid - Victoria Ridge by Vice Regent). Hey Maria (Maria's Mon - Majority Whip by Gulch) looked good on the track, and Duda Ten (Rock Hard Ten - Duda by Theatrical (IRE)) is very much her father's daughter. The post parade gave a good view of the ponies, but not much coverage of the horses running. Blue Grass Music's was a big palomino, in case you're interested. Shoo Gee (Forest Danger - Stormy Surprise by Mr. Greeley) went to the front, establishing a several length lead early. Hey Maria and Torre Italiana (Redattore (BRZ) - Italian Wine by Desert Wine) were the closest chasers early, then Duda Ten joined in. Blue Grass Music started off at a leisurely pace, in front of only Lemon Drop Ridge. Shoe Gee continued to show the way into the stretch, with Hey Maria and Duda Ten trying to catch her. Rallying into the picture was favorite Lunch Time Diva. She caught Shoo Gee late for a length victory. Shoo Gee held second over Duda Ten and Hey Maria. Blue Grass Music finished 7th. It's not the easiest task to debut on the downhill turf, she'll do better next time. Watch the Replay.

Yuckon Dances to the Winner's Circle

It was snowing, but the track was fast. There were no scratches. First-timer Rodeo Jill (Woodman - Lil' Mary's Kitty by Z Z Cat) took the early money, but Yuckon Dance (Canadian Frontier - Ant's in Her Pants by Broad Brush) was the slight favorite over Izzaeven (Even the Score - Something Borrowed by Runaway Groom) at post time. A J's Dream (Rockport Harbor - Blackstone Clock by Private Terms) was dismissed at 66-1. Sweet Chi Town (Cape Town - Brodnicki by Nicholas) looked good on the track, and Magic Case (Gold Case - Silver Alice by Silver Deputy) also caught my eye. Yuckon Dance was off on top, with Magic Case in pursuit. There was a gap to the others, led by Sue's Aly Cat (He's a Tough Cat - Sue's Creek by Storm Creek). A J's Dream (Rockport Harbor - Blackstone Clock by Private Terms) was taking the wide route from her outside post. Yuckon Dance and Magic Case continued 1-2 into the stretch, with Yuckon Dance pulling away for an easy 6 1/4 length victory. Magic Case was 3 in front of the others, with Izzaeven just edging Sue's Aly Cat for third. A J's Dream finished 9th. Watch the Replay.
