All the Way with Kindersley

Tiz the Argument (Closing Argument - Tiz Victoria by Tiznow) and Hollywood Reckless (Tiznow - Rare Bird by Rahy) were scratched. R Gypsy Gold (Bernardini - Broadway Gold by Seeking the Gold) was the heavy favorite, while Kindersley (Bernardini - Home Court by Storm Cat) was the longest shot on the board at almost 36-1. But, she showed good energy in the paddock. I kind of liked the look of Woolley Bird (Birdstone - City of Silver by Nepal), and Go Go Lolo (Awesome Again - Selena Rose by Honour and Glory) made a favorable impression on the track. Woolley Bird broke on top, but Kindersley was up there too. She took the lead shortly after the start, with Empress of Gold (Empire Maker - Circle of Gold by Seeking the Gold) in pursuit. R Gypsy Gold was not far off the pace on the rail. Kindersley continued to show the way. Empress of Gold made a move, and drew even with Kindersley. But, Kindersley took off again, while Empress of Gold was running green. Kindersley pulled away for a 4 1/4 length victory, with Go Go Lolo overtaking Empress of Gold late for second. R Gypsy Gold seemed to lack punch down the lane, and settled for fourth. Kindersley paid a sweet $73.40. This reaffirms my adage that when there are two Bernardinis in a race, play the one with the higher odds. Watch the Replay.

Be My Candy Winner

Don't Lie to Me (Badge of Silver - Estri by Conquistador Cielo) and AE Mint Martini (Boastful - Mintess by Kris S.) were out. The track was fast. Bid a Moon (Malibu Moon - Reserve Bid by Pine Bluff) was the slight favorite over Startling Beauty (Johannesburg - Gold Streamer by Forty Niner). Jewel of Rockport (Rockport Harbor - Box of Jewels by Half a Year) was almost 10-1. She was adding blinkers. Beagle Bust (Borrego - Sour Kisses by Not For Love) and Gossip Bay (Sligo Bay (IRE) - Prissy Linda by Norway Gray) mixed it up early. Startling Beauty and Grandma (Grand Slam - Ridinghood by Red Ransom) were close up as well. Startling Beauty pounced on the leaders, and opened up a several length lead. Coming into the picture, however, was Be My Candy (Candy Ride (ARG) - Bewixed by Thunder Gulch). She wore down Startling Beauty for a 1/2 length win. Bid a Moon, who was blocked for much of the race, picked up third. Jewel of Rockport didn't show much, finishing 6th. Maybe, the blinkers were not a good addition. Watch the Replay.

It took him 9 tries and a drop down to the $12,500 Maiden Claiming, but at least Peb Hughes (colt; Henny Hughes - Race Artist by Mr. Prospector) broke his maiden with style in race 4 at Gulfstream, a mile Maiden Claiming race. He went right to the lead and kept on going, crossing the wire 10 in front. He was claimed out of the race. Stamp of Approval (colt; Bluegrass Cat - Seeking Success by Seeking the Gold) did not get in off the AE list for the race. Watch the Replay.

All Quiet (filly; Henny Hughes - Quiet Rumour by Alleged) grounded out a third-place finish in race 4 at Aqueduct, a 6 furlong Allowance. Watch the Replay.

Sky Hosoya (filly; Bluegrass Cat - T. K. O. Lady by Two Punch) set the pace in race 1 at Aqueduct, a mile Starter Allowance, building up a 5 length lead. But she tired late, and finished 4th. Hughes Next (Henny Hughes - Offtheoldblock by A. P. Indy) makes his 4th start in this mile contest at Laurel. In his only 2011 start, he was 5th (last) in a 6 furlong race at Aqueduct on January 29, behind impressive winner The Fed Eased. Last year, Hughes Next finished 6th in both of his starts, at 5.5 furlongs on August 29, and at 6 furlongs on September 26. Those races were both at Monmouth.
