Joe Vann the Winning Man
Quiet Victory (Vindication - Silentlea by Cherokee Run) was the only scratch, and the track was fast. First-timer Sampo (Smart Strike - Flager (ARG) by Southern Halo) took the early action, but Joe Vann (Silver Deputy - Polish Flower by Danzig) was favored at post time. Hughes Next (Henny Hughes - Offtheoldblock by A. P. Indy) was 10-1. Mystical Terp (Lion Hearted - Mystical Tap by Pleasant Tap) caught my eye in the paddock. The start was good. Balto More (Inner Harbour - Miss Rolla Punch by Two Punch) and Joe Vann went for the lead. Small Town Talk (Yes It's True - Shiny Sheet by Press Card) and Hughes Next weren't far off. Joe Vann took command over Balto More. Small Town Talk was rank, but moved up to challenge. Hughes Next was staying involved. Joe Vann had folded in some of his previous races, but this time he kept going, winning by 4. Hughes Next showed some grit, however, wrestling second from Small Town Talk. Those three were far ahead of the rest of the pack, which was led by Warrensburg (Pleasantly Perfect - While Rome Burns by Overskate). Watch the Replay.
