Stakes Result

A Z Warrior (filly; Bernardini - Carson Jen by Carson City) was scratched from the La Habra Stakes (gr. III). The winner was Cambina (Hawk Wing - Await (IRE) by Peintre Celbre). Watch the Replay.

Concorde Takes Flight

There were no scratches, and the turf was firm. Concorde's Flight (Trippi - Concorde's Lady by Concorde's Tune) was favored, with the entry of Voyles (Officer - Yes It's Gold by Yes It's True) and Gudahi (Aragorn (IRE) - Grands Jetes by Nureyev) also taking some action. Hometown Legend (Bernardini - Mea Domina by Dance Brightly) was 36-1, and Staff Sargeant (Rockport Harbor - Falconese by Imperial Falcon) was 72-1. It's Time to Laugh (Irish Road - Out of Laughs by Out of Place) got a nice warmup. Concorde's Flight and Hometown Legend were reluctant to load. The rider hopped off of Flaming Heat (Bring the Heat - Newport Nikki by Lit de Justice), who got a saddle adjustment, and then loaded without a rider. Staff Sargeant was off slowly. Voyles went to the lead, with Flaming Heat and Concorde's Tune chasing. Voyles and Concorde's Flight continued 1-2 into the stretch, when Concorde's Flight swept by for a 2 3/4 length win. Voyles held second, and It's Time to Laugh took third. Hometown Legend passed a couple to finish 7th, and Staff Sargeant finished 9th after his slow start. Watch the Replay.

Smarter Than Ever Faster Than All

Smarter Than Ever (Smarty Jones - Ever Lasting by General Assembly) and Kathern's Jewel (El Corredor - Shining Jewel by Gulch) took most of the money, with Smarter Than Ever favored at post time. Knows How to Rock (Rockport Harbor - Unchained Princess by Clever Trick) was 20-1. Kathern's Jewel stumbled at the start. Smarter Than Ever went to the front, with Unbridled Maker (Empire Maker - Cia by Slew City Slew) after him. Knows How to Rock was near the back. Unbridled Maker continued to press Smarter Than Ever into the stretch, but Smarter Than Ever pulled away for a 3 1/4 length victory. Unbridled Maker just held off Kathern's Jewel, having recovered from his stumble, to take second. Knows How to Rock made up a few spots to finish 6th. Watch the Replay.

Nehro Eclipses the Field

All 12 ran on the fast track. First-timer Moon Eclipse (Malibu Moon - Brush Over by Broad Brush) was the lukewarm favorite. Also getting some play were Night Hunt (Storm Cat - Moon Safari by Mr. Prospector) and Heavenly Shiloh (Broken Vow - Nasranian Devil by Silver Ghost). Statehood (Bluegrass Cat - Heavenly Humor by Distorted Humor) was almost 53-1. Night Hunt set the pace, with Andretti (Mr. Greeley - Sparky Three by Monarchos) and Orange Tree (Strong Contender - Southern Dream by Souther Halo) in pursuit. Statehood was about mid-pack, and favorite Moon Eclipse was off a bit slowly. After 6 furlongs, the race began to completely change. Coming on strong from the back of the pack was Nehro (Mineshaft - The Administrator by Afleet), who hit the front running, to register a 4 1/2 length win. Also closing well was Moon Eclipse, who claimed second money despite some traffic trouble. Shertzer (Proud Citizen - Grandeur by Deputy Minister) looked like he would do some damage for a moment, but stalled, and finished fourth, behind Major Prince (Canadian Frontier - Princess Miner by Majestic Light), who ran evenly to finish third. Statehood was brushed, but didn't have a major excuse, and came home 6th. Moon Eclipse looks like one to watch for next time, but he will probably be even lower odds. Watch the Replay.
