To Honor and Serve (Bernardini - Pilfer by Deputy Minister) took a run at pacesetter Soldat (War Front - Le Relais) in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II), but he was no match, as Soldat pulled away again. Soldat went on to post a 2-length win over Gourmet Dinner. To Honor and Serve was a non-threatening third. He may have needed the race, but it wasn't the most promising beginning on his quest for the Kentucky Derby. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Fountain of Youth here.

As expected, Crossbow (Bernardini - Forest Heiress by Forest Wildcat) was scratched from the Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II) at Gulfstream, and will run instead in the March 5 Gotham (gr. III) at Aqueduct. The winner of the Hutcheson was Flashpoint (Pomeroy - Two Punch Lil by Two Punch) by an impressive 7 1/4 lengths. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Hutcheson here.

The Posse Says Not Now Ashley

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Four-year-old Que Posse (Posse - Lavender Baby by Rubiano) was favored, with Not Now Ashley (Tiznow - Ashley Darling by Storm Creek) and Percussion (Bluegrass Cat - Cradlesong by Pine Bluff) the only other entrants taking money. Percussion, who had been gelded since his last race, looked good. First-timer Inspeightofmyself (Speightstown - Sweet Fourty by Sweetsouthernsaint) caught my eye on the track. Not Now Ashley needed some persuading to go in the gate, but he came out running to set the pace. Doodleman (Hennessy - Marq of Beauty by Marquetry) and Que Posse took after him, and Percussion was settled off the pace. Que Posse moved into second and then took after Not Now Ashley. They finished as a team. Que Posse won the race by the slimmest of noses. Percussion was no match for the top pair, but he did move by the others to claim third. Watch the Replay.
