March 8 Stakes Result

The Mardi Gras Stakes at Fair Grounds was taken off the turf and run at a mile and 70 yards on the fast main track. Ambient (Rockport Harbor - Vickey's Echo by Clever Trick) was pulled up and vanned off after 6 furlongs. I do not have an update on her condition at this time. But Fair Grounds is dark until Friday, so no news is not necessarily bad news. The winner was Street Storm (Stormy Atlantic - Oblivious by Cozzene), who outfinished favorite Aide (Arch - Attache by Seeking the Gold) and Cryptocandiac (Candy Ride (ARG) - Citi Pearl by Citidancer). Is It a Car? No, It's Iscar

Storm 'n Indian (Storm Cat - Fleet Indian by Indian Charlie), entry mate to Iscar (Bernardini - Crimson Palace (SAF) by Elliodor (FR)), and Thisskysabeauty (Sky Mesa - Lovely Beauty by Robyn Dancer) were scratched. Redwood Falls (Indian Charlie - Bay Barrister by Miswaki) was the heavy favorite. Iscar was 3-1, and Acadian Blues (Bluegrass Cat - Dancing Gulch by Gulch) was almost 22-1. The favorite looked good on the track, but so did Iscar. Harlan's Hello (Harlan's Holiday - Princess Hello by Secret Hello) also caught my eye, but it may have been that old Harlan's Holiday weakness of mine emerging again. The start was decent, Redwood Falls and Harlan's Holiday dueled early, putting lengths between themselves and the rest. Iscar watched the action in third. Redwood Falls shook free from Harlan's Hello, but Iscar was coming. He moved even with the leader, and went on by. He went on to register a 3 1/2 length victory. Redwood Falls retreated after Iscar passed him, and finished 6th (last), allowing Harlan's Hello to reclaim second. Savannah Bay and Acadian Blues picked up the pieces in third and fourth.
