The Winning Incantation

Unraced He's Something Els (Golden Missile - Sweet Merlot by Grindstone) was scratched, leaving 6 to run on the fast track. Milky May (Bluegrass Cat - Cabo Sunrise by Elusive Quality) was favored, but Incantation (Bowman's Band - It's Witchcraft by Fly So Free) was also respected. Leroy's Deputy (The Deputy (IRE) - T. V. Secretary by Wheaton) jumped out to the early lead. Milky May, Swampside (The Deputy (IRE) - Lark's Song by Prospector's Music), and Incantation set after him. Incantation moved even with Leroy's Deputy on the turn, as Milky May dropped back a bit. Leroy's Deputy hung in there for awhile, but Incantation was able to pull free for a 3 1/4 victory. Milky May, who seemed done earlier, started running again late and picked up second. Swampside was took third over a tiring Leroy's Deputy. Watch the Replay.

Oh My Gulch

The track was fast, and all nine ran. It did seem to be pretty windy, but that's Oklahoma. Royal Schilling (Artie Schiller - Royal and Ancient by Royal Academy) was favored at 4-5, and Henny Hall (Henny Hughes - Golden Marlin by Marlin) was 6-1. He looked good on the track. The start was decent, although debuting Snows Last Chance (Cornish Snow - Accession by Lines of Power) let the others have a head start. Kentucky Boots (Storm Boot - Taste the Joy by Pembroke) jumped to the lead, but Oh My Gulch (Gulch - Once to Often by Raise a Native) reeled him in. Favorite Royal Schilling was not far off these two. Henny Hall was in traffic, it appeared that the rider had to check. Oh My Gulch and Kentucky Boots continued to battle. Royal Schilling moved on the outside to join the fray. Oh My Gulch fought on, and he and Royal Schilling finished together, with Kentucky Boots just behind. Oh My Gulch got the victory by a head. Henny Hall did a little running late to finish fifth. Once again, I love it when a horse writes his own headline. Watch the Replay.
