Hughes Next Winner

All six ran on the fast track. Greek Warrior (Ghostzapper - Willa On the Move by Two Punch) was favored, but Hughes Next (Henny Hughes - Offtheoldblock by A. P. Indy) received plenty of attention as well. The rest were double-digit odds. The start was good for all except Greek Warrior, who hit the gate. Balto More (Inner Harbour - Miss Rolla Punch by Two Punch) took the early lead, with Hughes Next and Count to Seven (Yarrow Brae - Seven Counties by Wayne County (IRE)) in pursuit. The rest were not far off, it was a pretty compact band of six. Balto More continued in front, with Hughes Next, and Greek Warrior, having recovered from his awkward start, breathing down the pacesetter's neck. Hughes Next moved even on the turn, and then went on by. Greek Warrior had dissappeared into the pack, but began to run on again. Jockey Julian Pimentel on Hughes Next took a peek behind, as they entered the stretch. Hughes Next really took off then, pulling away to a smart 5 3/4 length victory. Greek Warrior was a neck better than Count to Seven to pick up place money. Watch the Replay.

Edie Is Worth Repeating

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Edie (Eddington - Wander Storm by Storm Bird) was 1-2, and Repeat (Bernardini - Letgomyecho by Menifee) was almost 10-1. I kind of liked the look of Mother Warrior (Military - Septieme Etoile by Septieme Ciel), but Repeat made a nice appearance as well. The load seemed to take forever, primarily due to the presence of four first-timers. Pal Dela Kat (Max's Pal - Metallikat by Northern Prospect) was not happy, and The Nazgul Ride (Aragorn (IRE) - Stunning Image (IRE) by Kris S.) was reluctant. The latter filly came out running, however, setting the early pace. Edie, Blonde Bullet (Red Bullet - Sweet Aloe by Sandpit (BRZ)), and Repeat took after her. Off slowly were Pandora's Storm (Proud and True - Tower Storm by Whitney Tower) and Wickie's Flame (Kafwain - Ablaze by Forest Camp). Edie made her move in the stretch. Repeat came running, too, but she was no match for Edie. She pulled away to a 7 3/4 length victory. In the words of Track Announcer Richard Grunder, Edie was an hour the best. However, Repeat improved greatly over her debut, taking second by more than 2 lengths. Speedster was along for third. Watch the Replay.

Arthur's Tale (colt; Bernardini - Owsley by Harlan) didn't seem to be enjoying the slop early on in race 3 at Aqueduct, a mile Allowance/Optional Claiming race, but he kicked it in late to best pacesetter Simba's Story (Elusive Quality - Feline Story by Tale of the Cat) by a neck.
