Wear Red (filly; Henny Hughes - Aldebaran Light by Seattle Slew) lingered at the pack of the pack early in the New Port Richey Elks Handicap, but got going late to finish a decent fourth. The winner was My Redbyrd (Royal Academy - Polar Bird (IRE) by Thatching (IRE) by a neck over Blushandbashful (Even the Score - Casual Success by Tricky Creek). Watch the Replay.

Majestic Harbor (colt: Rockport Harbor - Champagne Royale by French Deputy) finished 9th in the Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds. It may have been too much too soon for him. The winner was Pants On Fire (Jump Start - Cabo de Noche by Cape Town) over longshot Nehro (Mineshaft - The Administrator by Afleet), with favorite Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno - Ponche de Leona by Ponche) in third. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Louisiana Derby here.

Chinglish Rings True

The only scratch was AE entrant Pervis (Kitten's Joy - Dare to Mambo by Kingmambo), and the turf was firm. Chinglish (War Front - Pete's Fancy by Peteski) was favored. Messner (Bernardini - Macoumba by Mr. Prospector) took some early play, but went off at 8-1. Dynamite Dude (Dynaformer - Changing World by Spinning World) had some spring in his step as they went to the track. Messner looked ready. Wyoming-bred Indy West (Count Me In - Popularity by Blushing Groom (FR)) was a little reluctant to load. Messner was out well, sitting third behind Superbull (Lemon Drop Kid - Guidelines by Holy Bull) and Awed (El Prado (IRE) - Art Fan by Lear Fan). Chinglish was just off the speed. After 6 furlongs, the complexion of the race changed, as the speed folded. Chinglish was on the scene first, but Minister Colin (Smart Strike - Minister's Baby by Deputy Minister), Storm Pursuit (Stormy Atlantic - Masada by Pleasant Tap), and Moonstock (Malibu Moon - Provisions by Devil's Bag) were all closing. Chinglish prevailed, however, coming home a length in front. Messner ended up 11th after his early action. He might be better off looking for a different strategy. Watch the Replay.

Not Forgotten

There were no scratches and the track was fast.Forgotten Knot (Flower Alley - St. John Dress by Richter Scale) was the slight favorite over Major Duomo (Bernardini - Karis Makaw by Charismatic). Statehood (Bluegrass Cat - Heavenly Humor by Distorted Humor) was 18-1. He looked a little wild on the track. I liked the looks of  Gentle Tap (Tapit - Stilbe by Wavering Monarch) and Conway (El Prado (IRE) - Libretto by Birdonthewire). Major Duomo went to the lead, with Forgotten Knot (Flower Alley - St. John Dress by Richter Scale) after him. Statehood wasn't far off. Major Duomo and Forgotten Knot continued to battle, and Gentle Tap began to get involved. Forgotten Knot went by Major Duomo in the stretch. Gentle Tap tried to catch him, but came up short. Major Duomo had to settle for third, but it was his best showing so far. Statehood weakened to 7th. Watch the Replay.

I would suggest trying Messner on dirt, but my guess is they don't think  he's a dirt horse. I get that he's a 3/4 to Malibu Moon, but Bernardini, aside from a couple of nice horses in Europe, is so clearly not a turf sire. You'd think any Bernardini would be tried on dirt if they had any ability on that surface.

Wear Red. so late and sooo close. This HH winning times will come. Just looked at Pants on Fire's maiden win at DP in the slop and forgot but our RH boy Sunday Punch was second choice in that race and ran a very respectful 3rd and held up pretty well in stretch, he also I hope has better times ahead, think he is now under LJ too. JW Blue had his first race in that Oct race as well and was coming on late out of the clouds as well. May turn out to be a very interesting race, was glad I saw it too.
