Disappointing news today, as To Honor and Serve (Bernardini - Pilfer by Deputy Minister) strained a suspensory ligament in his left foreleg, and is off the Derby Trail. Hopefully, he will come back better than ever later in the year.

Just an Everyday Dave

Soul Vacation (Seattle Fitz (ARG) - Antoinette by Silver Hawk) was scratched, along with Gentlemans Code (Proud Accolade - American Saint by Saint Ballado). However, his entrymate Everyday Dave (Weather Warning - Numerieus (FR) by Numerous) was made the favorite. Hachi (Cuvee - What'd I Say by Shuailaan) stumbled out of the gate, losing rider Matthew Straight. Straight took off his mounts for the rest of the day, but did not appear to be seriously injured. Hachi ran after the pack. Everyday Dave outbroke the field, as a typical Wesley Ward-trainee does, and set the pace. Curfew Tower (City Zip - Lights Out (AUS) by Way of Light) and Gimmeawish (Gimmeawink - Wish for Candi by Candi's Gold) took after him. Everyday Dave lengthened his lead, as Curfew Tower continued to chase. He gained a little late, but Everyday Dave was home free. Curfew Tower was safely second, and filly Concept (Montbrook - Quincy Market by Boston Harbor) was picking up speed late to take third. Everyday Dave is the first winner for freshman sire Weather Warning. Watch the Replay.

Shatoosh Squeezes Through

Sirocco (Eurosilver - Windborne by Forest Wildcat) was the only scratch, leaving 11 to run on the Polytrack. Bettors had a little trouble focusing on a favorite. Royal Start (Jump Start - Royal Pet by Desert Royalty) took the early money, but Cascadilla Falls (E Dubai - Cayuga's Waters by Langfuhr) was the slight (3-1) favorite at post time. Giant Rockstar (Rockport Harbor - Cause to Dream by Giant's Causeway) was almost 9-1. Wild Tizzy (Tiznow - Crazy Woman Creek by Wild Rush) caught my eye in the paddock. Miss Reve (Roman Ruler - Grand Ogygia by Ogygian) was acting up. She was also reluctant to load. They finally got her in, and she flipped in the gate, getting stuck. All of the horses were unloaded, so they could remove Miss Reve safely. She was a late scratch. Finally, the remaining fillies were loaded again. Giant Rockstar was off to a good start. Cascadilla Falls set the pace, with Wild Tizzy right there too. Royal Start was not far off either. Cascadilla Falls continued to lead, putting a little distance on the others. Champagne Run (More Than Ready - Bollinger (AUS) by Dehere) entered contention, and Giant Rockstar made a bit of a move. But, emerging from the traffic was Shatoosh (Langfuhr - Camella by Housebuster), who came between horses for the victory. Cascadilla Falls was second, and debuting All Mettle (Touch Gold - Seeking the Silver by Grindstone) was gaining good ground late to grab third over Champagne Run. Giant Rockstar got as close as 4th, but weakened and finished 8th. Watch the Replay.
