It looks like Filare l'Oro (filly; Hard Spun - Elusive Gold by Strike the Gold) will be out first two-year-old runner for the year. She is entered in the first at Pimlico on Friday, April 15, a 4.5 furlong Maiden Special Weight. I'll preview that race on Thursday.

English Code (colt; English Channel - Mystery Code by Lost Code) worked at Prairie Meadows, 4 furlongs in :53.51. A $20,000 yearling, English Code is out of grade III stakes-placed Mystery Code, who earned $156,182. Mystery Code has produced 6 winners from 7 to run, including stakes winner Lost Aptitude and grade III stakes-placed Dashes N Dots. April 10 Results

All the Way with Hoi An

All eight ran on the Polytrack. Hoi An (Successful Appeal - Forty Gran by El Gran Senor), the half sister to Square Eddie, was favored. Field of Clover (Bluegrass Cat - Zuri Ridge by Cox's Ridge) was 35-1. Bingo (Bernstein - Isabeau by Prospector's Pick) took the lead out of the gate, but Hoi An went right after her from the inside. Those two battled into the stretch, when Hoi An pulled away for a length victory. Celestina (Ghostzapper - Alpha Heat by Alphabet Soup), who was never far off, overtook Bingo late for the show spot. Field of Clover had brief speed, but retreated to finish 8th (last). Watch the Replay.

Carbon County Knocks Loudly

Fiddlers Veteran (Kafwain - Patriotism by Pleasant Colony) was scratched, along with MTOs Bigger Is Bettor (Grand Reward - Regal Angela by Regal Intention) and Piscesbymoonlight (Empire Maker - Moonlightandbeauty by Capote), since the race was run on the good turf. Carbon County (Suave - Sienna Lady by Mr. Greeley) was favored, and Appian Way (Bellamy Road - Roman Jet by Roman Diplomat) was respected some at 9-2. Check the Cites (Read the Footnotes - Madison Dollie by Forest Wildcat) and Mazara Del Vallo (With Distinction - One Final Wish by Red Ransom) dueled early, with Our Eli (Ten Most Wanted - Dangerous Beauty by Meadowlake) tracking in third. Carbon County was not far behind in fourth, and Appian Way was near the back early. Check the Cites pulled away from Mazara Del Vallo, but he was no match for Carbon County. He came running, swallowed up Check the Cites, and won by 5 1/4 lengths. Knock Quietly (Quiet American - Knockessy by Hennessy) couldn't catch the winner, but was well clear of the others. Camie's Hot (Uncle Camie - Miss Hotsy Totsy by Compelling Sound) and Sound of Drums (Fusaichi Pegasus - Morning Sun by Dehere) closed to finish 3rd and 4th, and Appian Way passed a few for 5th. Vegas Joe Hits the Jackpot

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Uniquely (The Daddy - Cope With Reality by Marco Bay) was favored, with Vegas Joe (Afleet Alex - Pose by Nureyev) getting plenty of action as well. Kiwi Humor (Bluegrass Cat - High Humor by Distorted Humor) was getting little love at almost 20-1. Granite Run (Rock Slide - Oblivious T. by Miswaki) set the pace, with Kiwi Humor and Heroic Indeed (Partner's Hero - Grandma Pat by Lord Avie) in pursuit. Kiwi Humor stuck his head in front after 6 furlongs, but was helpless to hold off the on rushing Vegas Joe. Also going by was Uniquely. Vegas Joe had the jump on that opponent, however, coming home 3 1/2 lengths in front. Uniquely was more than 4 in front of Kiwi Humor, who held third for his best result yet. Watch the Replay.
