News and Notes

Unfortunately, Arthur's Tale (Bernardini - Owsley by Harlan), who ran so well finishing second in the Wood Memorial, is off the Derby Trail with a minor injury. Maybe, he'll be back in time for the Travers?

How's Bayou Lovin The Mud

Five-year-old Silver City Dreams (Wiseman's Ferry - Cureourbabyblues by Cure the Blues) was scratched, and the track was muddy. How's Bayou (Flatter - Hurricane Betsy by Quiet American) was the overwhelming 1-5 favorite. Harbor Chimes (Rockport Harbor - Piano Chimes by Chimes Band) was almost 18-1. Debuting Mad as the Devil (Devil His Due - Madilynreign by Cryptoclearance) looked sharp on the track. How's Bayou looked ready, and went right to the lead. Hurricane Kitten (Tale of the Cat - Mrs. Filio by Eastern Echo) set after her. Harbor Chimes was in fifth, and Mad as the Devil was soon distanced at the back. Harbor Chimes and Hurricane Kitten continued 1-2 as the race progressed. Hurricane Kitten got closer and closer, but she was still a neck short as they passed the wire. Our Favorite (Honour and Glory - Trikitrikitriki by Favorite Trick) was more than 7 behind the top pair in third, and Harbor Chimes never budged from her 5th-place spot. This was a Hurricane exacta of sorts, since How's Bayou is out of Hurricane Betsy, appropriate for a wet day. Watch the Replay.

Captain My Winner

All twelve ran on the Polytrack. The bettors had a little trouble deciding on a favorite, settling on Straight Line (Refuse to Bend (IRE) - Unintentional (GB) by Dr Devious (GB)) at 5-2. Cheetah's Purr (Henny Hughes - Miss Shoplifter by Exuberant) was 5-1, Hometown Legend (Bernardini - Mea Domina by Dance Brightly) was 11-1, and Milky May (Bluegrass Cat - Cabo Sunrise by Elusive Quality) was almost 50-1. Firster Allen's Star (Roman Ruler - Simone's Show by Theatrical (IRE)) caught my eye in the paddock. Cheetah's Purr looked good on the track. The start was good. Captain My Captain (Officer - Purer Than Pure by Turkoman) went to the front, with Milky May right with him. Cheetah's Purr was in a nice spot in third. Captain My Captain continued on the front end. Milky May retreated, and Cheetah's Purr moved into second. Coming into the picture was Street Titan (Street Cry (IRE) - Atlas Valley by Capote), who was closing well. There was no quit in Captain My Captain, however, as he made his first start a winning one, by a length. Street Titan was safely second. Shrill (Distorted Humor - Yell by A.P. Indy), another debuter, closed with a rush after starting slowly to snatch third from Cheetah's Purr, who also ran well in his first attempt. The four first-timers filled 4 out of the 6 top placings. Hometown Legend didn't have much impact, finishing 9th, and Milky May finished 12th after his early involvement. Watch the Replay.

Winning On Picadilly Street

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Reflecting Riva (Lion Hearted - Riva's Reflection by Silver Deputy) was favored, and Harbor Spirit (Rockport Harbor - Endlessly by End Sweep) was 15-1. Trippi Honor (Trippi - Judge of Honor by Double Honor) flew out of the gate to set the pace. Deputing Unbridled Truth (Yes It's True - Unbridled Kim by Unbridled's Song) was up close early, but soon gave way. Harbor Spirit was near the back, along with favorite Reflecting Riva. Picadilly Street (Quest - Pretty Ditty by Islefaxyou), who was never far off, began to advance on leader on the outside as they made the turn. She opened up a several length advantage. Flying on the scene late was Reflecting Riva, but she ran out of real estate, and ended up second, a length behind Picadilly Street. Speedster (Ghostzapper - Expose by Quiet American) also overtook pacesetter Trippi Honor to take third. Harbor Spirit started running after the race was mostly over. She finished 6th, but was just a couple of necks from fourth. Hopefully, she learned something for next time. Watch the Replay.
