Catching the Winning Reys

News and Notes

I'll be at Rolex Saturday and Sunday (my first Saturday off in a very long time), so I'm not sure when the next blog will be posted. For Saturday, I'll preview a 2-year-old race at Hollywood Park. No starts on the horizon for our 2-year-olds as of today, but the works are heating up (see below), so should be more soon.

April 29 Result

Catching the Winning Reys

Hill Road (Bellamy Road - How Could You by Boundary) was scratched, leaving 11 fillies to battle. Sweet Moonbeam (Bring the Heat - My Outlet by Montbrook), 3rd in a 2.5 furlong race at Gulfstream on April 17, was favored. The buzz horse was Hannah's Holiday (Kafwain - Miss Holiday Inn by Tactical Cat), off at 5-2. Jazil's Song (Jazil - Song of Confidence by Confide), the first runner for 2006 Belmont winner Jazil, was 13-1. Piskacha (Master Command - Trick Question by Confide), daughter of freshman sire Master Command, was almost 33-1. Sugar Kuwalski (Sharp Humor - Deep Woods by Forest Wildcat) caught my eye in the paddock, but she was a little skittish on the track. Tapit to Me (Tapit - My Miss Emily by Regal Intention) had some spring in her step, and Hannah's Holiday looked good. The load was pretty smooth, especially for two-year-old fillies. Sweet Moonbeam went for the lead, but Sugar Kuwalski grabbed it. Sweet Moonbeam was right there, along with Rahy Girl (Eddington - Rahy Connection by Rahy). Catching Reys (Rey de Cafe - Taint True by Saint Ballado) was not far off of these. Sweet Moonbeam wrestled the lead away from Sugar Kuwalski, but Rahy Girl was still right there. Coming on from the back was Piskacha. Catching Reys came through on the inside to finish a neck in front of Piskacha for the win. Sweet Moonbeam was between these two in third, while Rahy Girl was back in fourth. As is befitting a daughter of Jazil, Jazil's Song ran well late, finishing 5th. Sugar Kuwalski tired after her earlier involvement, finishing 10th. Hannah's Holiday didn't have much of an impact. She was in mid-pack early, and then tired to 9th. Catching Reys did not want to be caught for the trip to the Winner's Circle, wheeling away from the outrider. Watch the Replay.

well i hope that this yr at the rolex will be death free, and majority of horse deaths in the past, they came because of the inexpericanced rider, who is only at 3 star level and given a horse at the 4 star level, and the riders not using their common sense to pull up their horses when the horse isn't in any shape to continue jumping and cantering.
