Back in the Saddle with Mabroor

Sorry for the silence of the past week, but with all the activities of the Kentucky Derby, I had to let the blog slide in order to preserve my sanity. I hope that everyone had a good Derby. Personally, I didn't cash a ticket. I liked Animal Kingdom a bit, and used him in some exactas and trifectas, but had a block when it came to Nehro. I just couldn't see him hitting the board. Maiden Watch's only Derby entrant, Stay Thirsty (Berndardini), finished 12th. It looks like he will not be running in the Preakness, but may be in the Belmont Stakes. Our only Kentucky Oaks runner, Kathmanblu (Bluegrass Cat) finished 6th. We did have a three-year-old graded stakes winner over the weekend, as Victoria's Wildcat (Bellamy Road) took the Eight Belles Stakes (gr. III) on Friday, May 6, by a nice-looking 2 1/4 lengths. Watch the Replay. Victoria's Wildcat now has three wins and a second in 7 starts, with earnings of $151,571.

The most important event for Maiden Watch on Derby Day, was the first winner for Hard Spun, as Mabroor (colt; Hard Spun - Mayfield by Exploit) won his first start at Haydock Park in England. The 6 furlong Try Totequickpick If Youre Feeling Lucky Maiden Stakes was run over good turf. Mabroor was off well, and was in a good position early, just off the leaders. The speed seemed to get away from him a bit at the halfway point, but he reeled them in, and came through on the inside for the victory. He looked a little green out there, but got the job done. Watch Replay. Mabroor sold for $150,000 as a weanling, and for $300,000 as a yearling. He is out of the winning mare Mayfield, who has now produced 3 winners from 3 to run. Mayfield's offspring include stakes-placed Angels in Arms. Mayfield is a full sister to one winner, and a half sister to 10 winners, including stakes winners Daimon, Jack Wilson, Twin Propeller, and Hope Rises; and grade II winner Penny's Reshoot. Read more about Mabroor here.

May I suggest adding Dunraven Pass to your maiden watch list. His first race at Indiana Downs last Wednesday was impressive and just wait until he hits the turf (Artie Schiller by a Marquetry mare)!

Very weird. I was able to pick Mabroor out of the field right after they left the gate and I didn't know which horse was which. I didn't think he looked that green. It looked to me like he tried to make a move between horses and was cut off and went inside at that point. He is a good looking colt for sure. Where can  I find that updated list of newly named two year olds ?

Thanks..I checked the newly named and I see IEAH still has not named the colt who is a half brother to Lost In The Fog. Another of his foals I am eager to see is Slinger who's 2nd dam, Binalegand is a half sister to Bedazzle, Street Sense's dam. I would be curious to know who his owner is. Jim Taffel owns the damn, Binavicar. The Hollywood Wildcat filly, Spinning Wildcat is intriging too.

OK, I sent an email to IEAH about the Hard Spun-Cloud Break 09 colt. Mike Sherack was kind enough to answer me almost immediatly. The gray colt is in Florida training with Eddie Woods and will likely be sent to Wesley Ward in Kentucky soon. They have not named him yet. Mike is debating over Lost In The System. I suggested Hard Break (which he liked) or Spun Cloud. If I get any further information I will send it over.

Criminal Type - Thanks for the info. I hope that they go with one of your suggestions, Lost in the System sounds a little negative.
