Bring Me a Large Kaufy

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Nine ran, including the entry of Hov Lane (Awesome of Course - Crimson and Roses by El Prado (IRE)) and Zebulon Road (Hear No Evil - Redeeming Grace by Monsieur Cat). Debuting Mel Beach (Pomeroy - Stars in Your Eyes by Pentelicus) was the early choice, but the experienced My Bambino (B L's Appeal - Givonna S by Abaginone) was favored at post time. Zebulon Road was reluctant to join the post parade. Salt Water Cowboy (Saint Anddan - Miss Annie Bea by Diablo) caught my eye on the track, and both Mel Beach and My Bambino looked good. Large Kaufy broke best, Ed Earl (Songandaprayer - Exit Now by Wild Again) set after him. Also close were Skibo in July (Songandaprayer - Key West Appeal by Valid Appeal) and Mel Beach. Large Kaufy shook free from the first wave. Jordan's Image (Hal's Image - Makememoneyhoney by Double Honor) and My Bambino ran on late, but Large Kaufy was gone. He crossed the wire 4 3/4 lengths in front. Mel Beach was second by a head over Jordan's Image, who was a neck in front of My Bambino. The greatest mystery of this race was how the Wesley Ward trained Large Kaufy went off at more than 5-1. Watch the Replay.

A Quick Sum

Bonaparte (Touch Gold - French Madam by Rahy), part of an entry with Exfactor (Exchange Rate - Bright Magic by Prized), was scratched, leaving 6 to run on the fast track. Sum of the Parts (Speightstown - Enjoy the Moment by Slew's Royalty) was favored, taking more money as post time approached. This was a nice looking group, but Sum of the Parts took my breath away. Kent Desormeaux came off Freddie One Bite (Forest Wildcat - Etoile Petite by Robannier), as they approached the gate. But, he was quickly back aboard. Boca Bay (Too Much Bling - Top Paddler by Conquistador Cielo) broke on top, but Sum of the Parts and Exfactor were there as well. Sum of the Parts put his head in front. Exfactor stuck with him for awhile, but Sum of the Parts pulled away for an easy victory. The winning margin was only 2 3/4 lengths, but it was not that close. Sum of the Parts definitely looks like one to keep an eye on. Watch the Replay.
