A Showcase Win

There were no scratches, and the track was sloppy. First-timer Vanity's Showcase (Flatter - Came Calling by Caller I. D.) was favored, but 3-race veteran Holiday Jazz (Harlan's Holiday - Call the Thunder by Thunder Gulch) also took some play. Angel Love (Corinthian - Open Story by Open Forum) was 7-2, and R Next Gem (English Channel - Jewels N Gems by Acceptable) was almost 12-1. I missed most of the prelims for this one, however, I did see the post parade, where Holiday Jazz made a favorable impression. Dancninthelillies (Mancini - Lilybaeum by Mountain Cat) dumped rider Marcelino Pedroza and took off. She didn't get far, however, and soon joined the others at the gate. She loaded fine, but reared and was restless in the gate. She came out running, however, and was on the lead early. But, she was soon passed by Vanity's Showcase. Angel Love had a nice spot in third on the outside after a slow beginning, and R Next Gem was back in fifth. Angel Love began to fade, as R Next Gem entered the picture. She took a run at Vanity's Showcase, getting closer and closer, but ran out of real estate. At the line, Vanity's Showcase was a neck in front of R Next Gem, who was better than three in front of Holiday Jazz. I'd Lie (Songandaprayer - Make Yourself Go by Track Barron) and Angel Love finished a neck apart in fourth and fifth, Dancninthelillies retreated to sixth, and Lan Lan (Noble Causeway - D Lan Lady by Whitesburg) broke slowly, and stayed at the back of the pack. Angel Love was claimed out of the race by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, and will now be trained by Mike Maker. Watch the Replay.
