Yvete Sangalo Rolls Home

Livi Makenzie (Macho Uno - Greta's Joy by Joyeux Danseur) was scratched, leaving 7 to run on the fast track. Thunder Lass (Thunder Gulch - Rachel's Viva by Viva Deputy) was the heavy favorite, with Effie (Closing Argument - Golden Diva by Gold Fever) also receiving attention. Yvete Sangalo (Hard Spun - Ya Tarra (GB) by Unbridled) was the only other filly with single digit odds. She made a decent appearance on the track. Catching my eye was Ram Air (After Market - Olmosta by Olmos). Nastylegs Ridge (Ben's Ridge (GB) - Nasty Reign by Reign Road) was a bit reluctant to load, and then a bit more reluctant. In the end, it took 4 or 5 assistant starters to push her in. Yvete Sangalo stumbled badly at the start (the chart declares, "fell to face start"), and was lucky to keep Chris Landeros aboard. Still, she was with the leading group, which was fronted by Thunder Lass. Kipling's Red Bird (Kipling - Filliano by Jamiano) and Ram Air were up there with her. Those three continued to trade punches, as the race continued. They left a hole open on the rail on the turn, and Effie came through and hit the lead. However, Yvete Sangalo was starting to come alive. She rolled home on the outside, and nipped Effie by a neck for the win. Effie was another neck in front of favorite Thunder Lass. It was five back to the others, led by Kipling's Red Bird. Mexican-bred Yvete Sangalo is the second winner overall for Hard Spun, and his first North American winner. Watch the Replay.

Yvete Sangalo was exceedingly impressive in breaking her maiden yesterday.  She fell to her face at the start then made a long, sustained rally on the outside to get up by a neck. Her momentum carried her well past the rival after the wire.  Well done to the connections!
