Anna Dances Away from Filare l'Oro

News and Notes

A couple of entries on the horizon: Midnight Vader (colt; Invasor - Allou by Seattle Slew) is entered in the first race at River Downs on June 8, scheduled for 5 furlongs on the turf, and Artest (colt; Hard Spun - Desire to Excel by Mt. Livermore) runs in race 3 at Belmont Park at 5 furlongs on the dirt on June 10. More on these races later in the week.

Freshman sire Noble Causeway picked up his first winner on June 3, when Lord Chelsie (gelding; Noble Causeway - Chelsie's House by Housebuster) won a 4.5 furlong race at Monmouth. Watch the Replay. He was making his second start, having finished third at Aqueduct on April 15. Lord Chelsie is out of stakes winner Chelsie's House, who earned $361,773. Chelsie's House has produced 2 other winners, including stakes winner Coax Liberty.

Nice win for 2-year-old Algorithms (colt; Bernardini - Ava Knowsthecode by Cryptoclearance) in the second at Belmont Park on June 3, a 5 furlong Maiden Special Weight. Watch the Replay. The $170,000 yearling was making his first start. He is a half brother to 5 winners, including stakes winner Alex's Allure, grade III winner Successful Mission, and grade II winner Keyed Entry.

Three-year-old Bellamy Star (filly; Bellamy Road - Swift Star by Theatrical (IRE)) won the Xtra Heat Stakes at 7 furlongs on the Belmont turf on June 5. She now has 2 wins and a second in 4 starts, with earnings of $59,970. Watch the Replay.

Good to see Zoebear (gelding; Bellamy Road - Inthemiddleofitall by Proper Reality), who finished second in the Illinois Derby (gr. III) in April, finally break his maiden. He won a 1 1/16 mile maiden race on the turf at Arlington Park. Watch the Replay. Zoebear has now earned $113,644.

Anna Dances Away from Filare l'Oro

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Favoritism volleyed between debuting Tola (Bluegrass Cat - Heart Warmer by Devil's Bag) and Dancing Anna (Cuvee - Mesabu by Fred Astaire), who was second in her only start, with Dancing Anna the slight choice at post time. Filare l'Oro (filly; Hard Spun - Elusive Gold by Strike the Gold) was 4-1, and looked good on the track. Backseat Romance (Action This Day - Parting Bid by Spectacular Bid) acted up at the load, as did Tola. Both jockeys were off, and then Backseat Romance was backed out. She was a late scratch. All of the loaded fillies were removed from the gate. Filare l'Oro had not loaded yet when all this activity was happening, and I thought that might be to her benefit. Finally, there were all loaded again, and were ready to go. Dancing Anna broke on top, but Allen's Last Dance (Dance With Ravens - Flirtatious Heart by Allen's Prospect) came through on the inside to join her. Shesa Sweet Talker (Stormin Fever - Stalwart's Secret by Stalwart) was up there too. Filare l'Oro was at the back. Allen's Last Dance briefly poked her head in front, and then retreated, as Dancing Anna spurted away from the field. Filare l'Oro was beginning to move. She almost everyone, and was gaining on Dancing Anna, but that filly had too much of a headstart. Dancing Anna passed the line 3 in front, with Filare l'Oro a good second, 1 3/4 lengths in front of Miss Pavarotti (Pavarotti - Missy McKee by Silver Deputy). It was another good effort from Filare l'Oro, who would seem to be begging for more distance. Watch the Replay.

Don from PA/DE

I agree Chris about FIO at DP, she needs more distance and looked good. It was an easy exacta for me and Jones's horse took alot of money and finished last. I hope FIO continues improving and if so we may hear from her later this year......just back from Santa Fe ready, I hope, for the Belmont. Don

<<<Sending a note to JJ Robb.  Give her 6 furlongs ! ! Good job on the catch up in the final 1/4 just not enough ground. I figured Dancing Anna would be up front from her first race. She's a nice filly. Dissapointed in Tola, but she was acting pretty badly at the gate, not as much as the Backseat Romance. I'll be watching for the other Hard Spun's racing later in the week. THANKS !

That MSW won by Bluegrass Atatude back in Mid April is quite formful.  With Defy Gravity and now Dancing Anna both winning impressively and with FIO finishing second.  I did see that Defy Gravity had a nice eay work on Saturday.
