News and Notes

Two-year-old gelding Sherman Bartlebort (Tannersmyman - Alpenwald by Swiss Yodeler) broke his maiden in his second start today at Golden Gate Fields. Watch the Replay. I thought that this was the coolest name. Anyone know if it is from a book or a movie?

I am going to be a little busy with the Belmont Stakes tomorrow, so I am previewing races for both Saturday and Sunday below. I will not post recaps for these races until Tuesday at the earliest. I hope everyone has a porsperous Belmont Stakes. I'm sticking with Mucho Macho Man.

June 10 Result

Artest is Best

All seven ran, including the entry of Jet Set Cat (One Nice Cat - Jet Set Jazz by A. P Jet) and Freudian Therapist (Freud - Jazzy Discovery by Regal Discovery). The track was fast. The only one with experience, Finale (Scat Daddy - Twinkle by Lively One), started at even-money and went down from there. Artest (Hard Spun - Desire to Excel by Mt. Livermore) was 3-1. Freudian Therapist wanted no part of the pony. Perfect Trippi (Trippi - Roger's Sue by Forestry), the half brother to grade I winner Turbulent Descent, and Finale looked good, but no one looked better than Artest. The flashy chestnut received a strong warmup. Freudian Therapist was a little reluctant at the load, but they opened the front of the gate, and got him in. Artest broke running. Perfect Trippi was with him. The fractions were swift: :21.77, :45.37. Perfect Trippi and Artest battled for awhile, but then Artest pulled away. He was swishing his tail in the stretch, not liking the whip, but was safely home in front by 6. Vexor (Wildcat Heir - Real Clever Trick by Yes It's True) ran on late to take second, with Perfect Trippi holding third. Favorite Finale could do no better than 4th, followed by the filly Ullapool, and the entrymates Jet Set Cat and Freudian Therapist. Artest is the third winner for Hard Spun, and his second debut winner. Watch the Replay.
