Too Much Power of Nine for Big Girl

Nine ran on the Tapeta. Big Girl (Street Sense - Quiet Celerity by Quiet American) was a tepid 3-1 at first flash, but steadily decreased to approach even money. This decrease in odds was probably due to her connections of jockey Russell Baze and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. She looked attentive in the paddock, and yes, she is a pretty big girl. Munnings Sister (Speightstown - La Comete by Holy Bull) is a flashy chestnut, like her brother, grade II winner Munnings. I liked the look of Im Tops (He's Tops - Summer Sails by In Excess (IRE)) on the track. The load was fairly smooth. Tribal Delight (Tribal Rule - Creole Delights by Bertrando) was a mite stubborn, and Mahalo Princess (Tribal Rule - I'm a Lil Princess by Lil Tyler) acted up in the gate. Yuma Thurman (Sea of Secrets - Queens Over Jacks by K One King) broke best, but she was joined by Power of Nine (Capsized - Position of Power by Lord Carson) and Munnings Sister. Big Girl had a good spot in fourth. Power of Nine and Yuma Thurman pulled away from Munnings Sister, and then Power of Nice shook free from her rival. She went on to post a 2 1/4 length victory. The next 6 finished together, with Tribal Delight closing to capture second, a neck in front of Yuma Thurman, who was a head in front of Big Girl, who was a neck better than Im Tops. Im Tops had a whole 1/2 length on Jule's Gold (Best Minister - Aunt Polly by Raise a Champion), who was a neck better than Munnings Sister. Finally, there was a break to Mahalo Princess (Tribal Rule - I'm a Lil Princess by Lil Tyler), and a bigger break to Forever Rules (Tribal Rule - High Rise Rita by Santiago Peak), who checked at the start and trailed throughout. Big Girl ran fairly evenly, learned some things, and should improve. Watch the Replay.

I am excited about seeing Artest run today as long as weather conditions are safe. The weather should be better today but still hot and muggy. Good thing they cancelled yesterday and I think all the Mid Atlantic region tracks were off yesterday. The heat was brutal. It would have been miserable for the horses. I keep thinking of how hot Gabbys Golden Gal was at Belmont after her Acorn win. She was in bad shape. Im outside of Baltimore, we hit a record degrees with a heat index of 106, ONLY gonna be 90 today.

I was looking at Eblouissante's video on John Sherriff's Youtube channel: www.youtube.com/.../jonshfs05

I also noticed a couple of his earlier videos have a nice looking gray Hard Spun colt, Grey Spectrus, who is not on the list of Hard Spun offspring:

WoooHooo yes,  Artest by 5, nice win ! He ran pretty greenly ducking in and lugging out, but man can he run. Pulled the opening 1/4 in 21 and change. That's blazing a trail huh ? Not what I expected color wise but be is a pretty chestnut colt none the less. Good job Mr Dutrow.

Criminal Type - Looked like Artest didn't care for the whip, and who could blame him?

Karen - There is no Hard Spun named Grey Spectrus according to the Jockey Club. It is very possible that the name has been reserved and just not in the official db yet, but I do not add the names until they appear officially.

I didn't notice the whip until I watched the replay, I was too busy yellin come on ! come on ! I yelled so loud I scared the cats. But I did notice when I watched the replay after I had posted about him having run greenly. I really hate it when they whip up on those babies like that.

Regarding that gray Hard Spun colt, He's a stunning horse. He has a handful of gray 2 year old offspring. Too bad we don't know who the dam is.

Criminal Type - Funny about your cats. One of mine hates it when I yell for the horses.

Ah, I found it. The grey Hard Spun in John Sherriff's barn isn't Grey Spectrus, it's Spectrus (Hard Spun - Queen's Triomphe by Cure the Blues) owned by the Mosses.

Thanks, Chris. I should have thought to look for Spectrus. I like the Cure the Blues and Relaunch. I will try to keep an eye out for this guy!
