News and Notes

Sorry that the blog has been quiet for the past few days, I was entertaining relatives from out of town. Thanks to K. Robb for keeping us posted on European action. We have not missed any North American entries for our 2-year-olds, but plenty are on the horizon. In addition to R Next Gem (filly; English Channel - Jewels N Gems by Acceptable) running at Churchill Downs on Friday (see below), I have received 7 entries for Saturday, 2 for Sunday, and 2 for Monday. I wouldn't be surprised if more arrive before the weekend. Speaking of Churchill Downs, like many I am amazed and grateful that all people and horses are safe after the tornado. I hope that all who suffered damages recover quickly.

Liononeoone Spins Away from the Lady

All nine fillies ran on a track labeled good. Debuting Spinning Lady (Hard Spun - Global Finance by End Sweep) was favored. Also taking some money was Liononeoone (Lion Hearted - Chippewa by Alleged), 2nd in her only start on May 29 at Charles Town. Spinning Lady lunged at the start and was left behind. Liononeoone, Allen's Last Dance (Dance With Ravens - Flirtatious Heart by Allen's Prospect), and Vero Beach (Gators N Bears - Folly Beach by Cherokee Run) battled early. But, Spinning Lady was rushed up to join the fun, going by on the rail to take the lead. Liononeoone took after her, and went on by. Liononeoone took command, and won by 5, despite trying to lug out. Sharp Bourbon (Sharp Humor - Bourbon Mint by Storm Center) came on from way back to pick up place, and Allen's Last Dance hung around for third. Spinning Lady tired to fourth after rushing up. Also tiriring was Vero Beach, who came in fifth. Spinning Lady was definitely compromised by her start, hopefully she learned something from the performance. Watch the Replay.
