July 7 Result

Candrea Leaves Pogonip Behind

There were no scratches, as all 12 ran on the Cushion Track. Candrea (Trippi - Burn Brightly by American Chance) opened at 8-5, and went down from there. Pogonip (Street Sense - Queen Mama by Seattle Slew) was 34-1. She was getting a little wild in the post parade. She also has a stubby tail. D'princess (D'wildcat - Italian Slew by Ocala Slew) and Lasso from El Paso (Smoke Glacken - Our Tune by Concorde's Tune), who finished just a nose apart last time out, looked good to me. But, there was no faulting the favorite. The load was smooth, despite the presence of nine first time starters. D'princess outbroke the field, and was soon 2 lengths in front. She was chased by Lady Fairbanks (Pure Prize - Yes It's Royalty by Yes It's True), Candrea, and Lasso from El Paso. Pogonip was off last, but she did get over to the rail to save some ground. D'Princess continued to lead, but she was off the rail, leaving a big hole for Candrea. She took full advantage, zipping on through, and pulling away for an easy 3 1/2 length victory. Made to Love Her (Stevie Wonderboy - Love Boot by Storm Boot) ran on well late to take second, Cascina (Dixie Union - Isabeau by Prospector's Pick) picked up some places for third, and D'princess tired to fourth. Pogonip passed a few, but was then in tight, and finished 12th (last). However, there wasn't much separating 7th through 12th. Watch the Replay.
