July 20 Maiden Result

Weemissfrankie Flies Home

There were no scratches, as all 10 ran on the Polytrack. Weemissfrankie (Sunriver - Starinthemeadow by Meadowlake) took the early money, but Cha Cha Latte (After Market - Our Friend Terry by Cox's Ridge) was the slight choice at post time. Punch Drunk (Corinthian - Punch Appeal by Successful Appeal) was almost 10-1. Smoke Train (Medaglia d'Oro - Stormy Spell by Tsunami Slew) caught my eye in the paddock, and Punch Drunk made a decent appearance. Weemissfrankie looked good on the track. The load was pretty smooth. Love My Way (Pomeroy - Big City Joy by Joyeux Danseur) protested a bit, and was loaded sans jockey. She came out running, however, to set the early pace. Punch Drunk was her closest pursuer. Not far off were Sweet Nothings (Street Cry (IRE) - Dutchess Mojo by Deputy Minister) and Lady Fairbanks (Pure Prize - Yes It's Royalty by Yes It's True). Love My Way continued to lead into the stretch, but Lady Fairbanks was mounting a challenge. It looked like the race would be decided between these two, but flying on the outside was Weemissfrankie. She rolled on by, to win by 1/2 length. Lady Fairbanks and Love My Way finished together, with just a nose separating them, Sweet Nothings ran evenly to take fourth, and Cha Cha Latte checked in fifth. Punch Drunk weakened to ninth after her early involvement. Wemissfrankie, who set a new track record for 5 furlongs on the Polytrack at Del Mar, is the second winner for her sire Sunriver. Sunriver has now had two starters, and two winners. Watch the Replay.

Tap It Twice (Tapit - Catnabout by Out of Place), Sheza Great Friend (Stevie Wonderboy - Carsona by Carson City), and Candy and Nuts (A. P. Warrior - All Charm by Storm Cat) finished 5th, 6th, and 9th in a 5 furlong Maiden Special Weight race at Hollywood Park on June 26. It was the only start for all three. Second in that race was Cha Cha Latte, who finished 5th in a 5 furlong Maiden Special Weight at Del Mar on July 20. Tap It Twice sold for $20,000 as a yearling, and for $55,000 as a 2-year-old. She is out of the winning mare Catnabout, who was a winner at 2, and has produced 2-year-old winner Moose and Squirrel. Catnabout is a half sister to 6 winners. Sheza Great Friend is by freshman sire Stevie Wonderboy, whose 8 runners have made 11 total starts, recording 2 seconds, 1 third, and $31,385 in earnings. Chilling Command was a $30,000 weanling, and is out of stakes-placed Chilling Effect, who earned $196,433. Chilling Effect has produced Bach Hamilton, a winner at 2, who was also stakes-placed that season. Bach Hamilton is a horse that always looks good to me before a race, so I am interested to see her half sister. Chilling Effect is a half sister to 6 winners. Bob and John, sire of A Racing Delight, has had 6 starters, which have run 8 times in all, registering 3 wins, 1 third, and $18,114 in earnings.
