Due Process of Winning

The turf was firm. Somali Lemonade (Lemon Drop Kid - Chic Corine by Nureyev) was scratched, allowing AE entrant My Due Process (Henny Hughes - Easy Action by Crafty Prospector) to run. The other AEs, Tap a Bay Yankee (Tapit - Raphaela by Grand Slam) and Dancin N Prancin (Johar - Cozzmic Wonder by Cozzene), stayed on the sidelines. Sisterhood (Kitten's Joy - Caterette by Cozzene), the only filly with turf experience, was the slight favorite over first-timer Coral Glade (Unbridled's Song - Jessamy Lane by Hennessy). Inny Minnie (Hard Spun - Inny River by Seattle Slew) was 6-1, and Glinda the Good (Hard Spun - Magical Flash by Miswaki) was 11-1. Inny Minnie has her Daddy's butt. I was hoping that she'd show it to the rest of them. I liked the look of Assateague (Stormy Atlantic - Amelia by Dixieland Band). Dorothy's Spirit (Scat Daddy - Im Out First by Allen's Prospect) looked good warming up, and My Due Process made a favorable impression. Coral Glade and My Due Process went for the lead. Inny Minnie was in a good spot, just off these in fourth. Glinda the Good was bumped at the start, and trailed. Assateague moved into contention, as My Due Process and Coral Glade continued to battle. In the stretch, it was all My Due Process, as she spurted away from the field. She went on to win by 5 1/4 lengths. Inny Minnie outfinished the rest to claim second, while Golden Rock (Bernardini - Zehoorr by Storm Cat) and Dorothy's Spirt closed for third and fourth. Glinda the Good never really got unwound, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

A Singlet Victory

Siberian Wildcat (Wildcat Heir - Artic Experience by Slewpy) was the only scratch, which left 7 fillies to battle on the fast track. Heather's Feather (Dixie Union - Santa Rosa Island by Valiant Nature) was a heavy favorite. Tiara (Corinthian - Fusaichi Lady by Fusaichi Pegasus) was almost 7-1. Alydarla (Henny Hughes - Mamboalot by Kingmambo) looked good to me, and Heart of Destiny (Lion Heart - Doc's Destiny by Doc's Leader) was interesting. Tiara was a little tentative at the load, but then walked on in. Heart of Destiny was restless. The start was good. Alydarla emerged with the lead, while favorite Heather's Feather was at the back. Singlet (Real Quiet - Taylor's Choice by Conquistador Cielo) and Bluegrassislegal (Bluegrass Cat - Shop Glack by Smoke Glacken) took after Alydarla. Bluegrassislegal blew the turn, and retreated to the rear. Alydarla continued to lead, but Singlet was relentless in pursuit. She caught her rival at the wire, for a 1/2 length victory. Alydarla was 5 lengths clear of Heart of Destiny in third, while Heather's Feather gained some to finish 4th. Shesa Sweet Talker (Stormin Fever - Stalwart's Secret by Stalwart) was involved for awhile, but weakened to 5th, and Tiara beat only Bluegrassislegal. Watch the Replay.

Stephanie's Kitten Blossoms for the Win

Purple Barbie (Flatter - Darmane by Mane Minister) was scratched, leaving 7 to run on the yielding turf. Stephanie's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Unfold the Rose by Catienus) was favored on account of her third-place debut run on July 9. Tripping (Hard Spun - Mississippi Lights by Majestic Light), who finished behind Stephanie's Kitten on July 9, was almost 19-1. Stephanie's Kitten looked good, but I thought that Rainbow Blossom (Exchange Rate - Ever Lasting by General Assembly) looked even better. Tripping looked lively in the post parade, and A. P. Azerin (A.P. Indy - Silent Sighs by Benchmark) was warming up well. Rainbow Blossom was ready. Lady Joburg (Johannesburg - Stateliness by Silver Deputy) was a little wet as they loaded. A couple fillies were hesitant to load, but not Tripping, who went in like a pro. She broke on top, but Lady Joburg came through on the rail to set the pace. A. P. Azerin soon joined these two, and the trio separated themselves from the others. The fractions were slow, :25.20, :49.95. These three continued to show the way, but Stephanie's Kitten began to gain. She swept by them and opened up. The race wasn't over, however, as Rainbow Blossom was coming on. She couldn't catch Stephanie's Kitten, who took the race by 1 1/2 lengths. Rainbow Blossom was more than 5 in front of the others, which were led by A. P. Azerin. Tripping finished 5th after her early involvement. She may have been compromised by the yielding turf, and her inability to settle in the early stages. Watch the Replay.

Nice win by English Channel firster Optimizer in the 2nd at Saratoga. However the 2 year old that impressed me the most, was the winner of the 3rd race, Currency Swap. What an excellant debut.
