Optimizing the Win

The AEs, including Knock Rock (Corinthian - Lady Cozzette by Cozzene), and the MTOs were scratched. The turf was firm for the remaining 10. Longwood Lane (Langfuhr - Forty Moves by Gold Fever) was the lukewarm 3-1 favorite, Optimizer (English Channel - Indy Pick by A. P. Indy) was 27-1, and Winston C (Corinthian - The Happy Hopper by El Prado (IRE)) was 39-1. Optimizer looked good heading to the track, and I was liking Coach Royal (Lemon Drop Kid - Pagosa Springs by A.P. Indy). Winston was lively on the track, he is quite a handsome boy. Takemebaktoartemus (Kitten's Joy - Easy Slam by Grand Slam) was off slowly, and Gavett (Badge of Silver - Dare to Mambo by Kingmambo) bobbled after the start. There was a big scramble for the lead, Winston C emerged from the pack and sprinted clear from his outside post. Two Months Rent (Purim - Sharp Tradition by Sharpen Up (GB)) and Longwood Lane took up the chase. Winston C continued to lead, but the others were getting closer. Along with Two Months Rent and Longwood Lane, Seve (Giant's Causeway - Our Dani by Homebuilder) was also in the mix. Two Months Rent took a short lead, as Winston C began to fade. Making a run on the outside was Optimizer. He kept coming and coming, and got his neck in front at the wire to pay $57.00 for the win. Longwood Lane was second, and Two Months Rent was third. Coach Royal was making up some ground late to finish fourth. Winston C weakened to 9th, but he'll be stronger next time. Optimizer is the third winner for English Channel, and his second winner at a mile and a sixteenth on the Saratoga turf. All three of English Channel's winners were debut winners. Watch the Replay.

A Currency Swap Takes the Gold

All nine ran on the fast track. Takes the Gold (Corinthian - Marquet Rent by Marquetry) was favored, Street Fight (Street Sense - Reportedly by Silver Deputy) was 7-2. Takes the Gold looked like a monster, Street Fight looked ready, and Africanist (Johannesburg - Mekko Hokte by Holy Bull) caught my eye. Takes the Gold broke on top, but Currency Swap (High Cotton - Echo Bluff by Pine Bluff) and Street Fight took after him. Takes the Gold and Currency Swap continued to battle, as Street Fight dropped back. In the stretch, it was all about Currency Sweep, who pulled away for a 6 length victory. Africanist snatched second from Takes the Gold late, and Street Fight tired to 9th (last). Currency Swap is the 5th winner for High Cotton. Watch the Replay.

Don from PA/DE

Wow Chris some real surprises at Spa.....I did not "Key" Lukas trained "Optimizer" but when I saw the odds near PT and English Channel sire, put $2.00 to win and used him in DD, but took "Africanist" in next race, who came in 2nd, so no DD payout which was huge with "Currency Swap" was very interesting Don
