Nice winning debut for 2-year-old filly And Why Not (Street Cry (IRE) - Alchemist by A. P. Indy) in race 8 at Saratoga, winning the 6.5 furlong race by 5 1/2 lengths. Watch the Replay. She looked great before the race, and attracted my wagering dollars. Did anyone impress you this weekend?

Charm the Maker (Empire Maker - Charm the Giant (IRE) by Giant's Causeway) was the only scratch, as a big field of 11 went to post. English-bred Dreamcaster (Bernardini - Winendynme by Dynaformer) was the heavy favorite. Neither Light of Life (Corinthian - Touch of Splendor by Charismatic) nor Pogonip (Street Sense - Queen Mama by Seattle Slew) was given much of a chance, 24-1 and 45-1 respectfully. No one was knocking my socks off in the post parade, but I couldn't fault the favorite on looks. I liked Bluegrass Story (Bluegrass Cat - Norma's Legacy by Red Ransom) a bit. Pogonip looked decent, she deserved another look after pretty much not running a step first time out. Light of Life was full of beans on the track. The break was fairly even, although Light of Life was off a little slowly. Cavalletta (Offlee Wild - Fairly Well by Touch Gold) was the first to show, but she had lots of company. When the dust settled, Dreamcaster was on the lead, but Pogonip was right with her. Smoke Train (Medaglia d'Oro - Stormy Spell by Tsunami Slew) and Bluegrass Story were chasing. Dreamcaster and Pogonip continued 1-2. Dreamcaster began to slip away, but Pogonip was hanging tough. But, Dreamcaster pulled away to win by 2 1/4 lengths. Flying late for third was Tap It Twice (Tapit - Catnabout by Out of Place), who just missed second. Light of Life was running late as well to take the fourth spot. Good debut for Dreamcaster, but a much improved second-effort from Pogonip. Also, decent debut for Light of Life, especially considering her tardy beginning. Watch the Replay.

Nice 1 mile at dp today, won't be there but like 2/5 exacta box think Bob Got Loaded or Sound Effect may win first time out if they stay out of trouble. Would even consider putting all behind these two in trifecta....Don

Afleet Again runs his own race and you ran with your heart. The John's Call was a tough race and you tried very hard. A big hug to you Afleet Again.

Love the name English Crossing for an English Channel fillie, won many a race on English Channel.

Don - Your words were pretty prophetic, at least concerning Sound Effect. I think that he would have won without the tardy start.

Yeah Chris, glad I didn't bet, but the sloppy track didn't help a bit either I think, especially for Bob got loaded, agree sound effect is one to watch next time, rain or shine.
