Splendiferous Knocks the Rock

Guyana Star Dweej (Eddington - Special Feeling by Pine Bluff) and Ventura Bar (Officer - Ventura Hotel by Grand Slam) were scratched, as well as MTO Saint Honore (Sun King - She Ain't a Saint by Meadowlake). The turf was firm for the remaining seven. Chanttoomuch (War Chant - Heavenly Spirits by Southern Halo) was favored. Knock Rock (Corinthian - Lady Cozzette by Cozzene), who was adding blinkers, received some action at 4-1. Gossip Column (Bandini - Hot Gossip by Java Gold) is certainly an eye-catcher, Golden Noble (Noble Causeway - Goldendale by Saint Ballado) was on his toes. He shied a bit as they headed to the track. The load was a bit of an adventure. The jockey jumped off Knock Rock, who was loaded sans jockey and with the doors open. Then, Speightscity (Speightstown - My American Girl by Quiet American) acted up and had to be unloaded. Several horses needed the starting gates opened before they would enter. Knock Rock outbroke the field to set the pace. Golden Noble went up to press Knock Rock. Chanttoomuch wasn't far off, but was rank. Knock Rock continued to lead, as Splendiferous (Pleasantly Perfect - Ploesti Flight by Lucky North) started to get involved. Knock Rock spurted free from the competition, and seemed home free, but then the second turn arrived. He bolted, and ended up on the outside rail. Splenderiferous went on to post a 1 1/4 length victory over Gossip Column, who closed with a rush. Even though he ended up on the outside fence, Knock Rock still took the show spot. I love the chart comments, "somehow managed to get the show." Obviously, Knock Rock has some issues that need correcting, but he also has plenty of talent. Hopefully, he'll run straight next time.
