News and Notes

I hope that everyone in the hurricane zone is staying safe. Thanks to Irene, we have no runners for Sunday (since Monmouth canceled), so I'll preview a Monday race at Delaware Park.

Changethechannel (English Channel - Elegant Prospect by Mr. Prospector) was scratched from the 3rd at Emerald Downs, the winner was Ronda Rocks (Rockport Harbor - Lets Get Cozzy by Cozzene), who led the whole way. .Watch the Replay.

An impressive debut for 2-year-old colt Fire On Ice (Unbridled's Song - Lost in the Storm by Storm Cat) in the 2nd at Saratoga, a 6 furlong Maiden Special Weight. He shrugged off Casual Trick, while running swift fractions, :22.29, :45.07, and drew off, winning by 10 3/4 lengths. Watch the Replay.

Stakes Result

Questing (filly; Hard Spun - Chercheuse by Seeking the Gold) led most of the way in the 7 furlong Whiteley Clinic Prestige Stakes (Eng-III) at Goodwood, but was caught late by Regal Realm (Medicean (GB) - Regal Riband (GB) by Fantastic Light) and Rakasa (Redoute's Choice (AUS) - Danse Arabe (AUS) by Seeking the Gold), and had to settle for third. This experience should help her move forward. Watch the Replay.

Police Force (colt; Street Sense - Land of Dreams (GB) by Cadeaux Genereux (GB)) finished third in his 6 furlong Maiden Race at Newmarket, run over Good to Soft ground, losing second late. Watch the Replay

Miss Netta Delivers

Stellabymoonlight (Malibu Moon - Five Star Dream by Two Punch) was scratched, leaving 9 on the fast track. Wee Party (Indian Charlie - Hen Party by Hennessy) took the early money, but Mi Vida (Distorted Humor - Crystal Current by A. P. Indy), the only one left in the field with experience, was favored at post time. Miss Netta (Street Sense - Dyna Peak by Dynaformer) was 7-1. She was a little anxious in the paddock, but settled down once on the track. Trophy Wife (Giant's Causeway - Pleasant Home by Seeking the Gold) is a beauty, but I thought 6 furlongs might be a little short for her. Wee Party was full of beans on the track, and Mi Vida was looking like a winner. At the load, Try to Catch Her (Broken Vow - See How She Runs by Maria's Mon) try to flee, and then planted her feet stubbornly. There was some minor protesting amongst most of the other fillies as well. Manda Bay (Empire Maker - Summer Wind Dancer by Siberian Summer) reared at the start, and lost all chance. Going to the front was Miss Netta. Black and White (Roman Ruler - Her Temptation by High Yield) and Yellow Boat (Lemon Drop Kid - Wye River by Pleasant Colony) set after her, but Miss Netta sprinted several lengths away. She continued to lead, as Yellow Boat moved into second. The final margin was 2 3/4 lengths, but it really wasn't that close, as Miss Netta won with the greatest of ease. Yellow Boat was more than 6 in front of the others, with Trophy Wife the best of those. Miss Netta is the 5th winner for Street Sense. Watch the Replay.

A Good Prospective

All 8 ran on the Polytrack. The Bear Vow (Broken Vow - Fashion Girl by Tactical Cat) opened at 1-9, and only went up a bit from there before they broke. Wicked Hard (Hard Spun - Pennant Winner by Crafty Prospector) was almost 27-1. He made a favorable impression in the paddock. Fellow first-timer Henny One (Henny Hughes - One Eightyonephila by Elusive Quality) looked ready, and I liked the look of The Mighty Sparrow (Stevie Wonderboy - Spring Fair by Cozzene) on the track. The start was good, apart from Bluedacious (Bluegrass Cat - Unbridled Con by Unbridled's Song), who came out slowly. Wicked Hard came out running, but was off the rail. The Mighty Sparrow came through to lead, and Prospective (Malibu Moon - Spirited Away by Awesome Again) was up on the pace as well. He made his move in the stretch, going to the lead, as The Mighty One began to fade. He had no time to relax, however, as The Bear Vow was coming. He made a strong bid, but Prospective held him off, getting the win by a neck. Rallying on the inside was Henny One, who was just a neck behind The Bear One. Watch the Replay.

A Spirited Victory

Emcee Rush (Master Command - Quite a Rush by Wild Rush), Mekong Delta (Stormy Atlantic - South Sea Blues by Cure the Blues), Nayeer (Artie Schiller - Ruthless Babe by Grand Slam), Matching Skies (Henny Hughes - Miss Matched by Formal Gold), and Lovely Lo (Scat Daddy - She's Sterling by Silver Deputy) were scratched. AEs Almira Fawn (E Dubai - New Dimension by Golden Missile) and Kiss in the Forest (Forest Wildcat - Hummingbird Kiss by Smart Strike) got to run on the firm turf. Debuting Spirited Miss (Sky Mesa - Little Hussy by Horse Chestnut (SAF)) was the early choice, but Kiama (Ghostzapper - Wedded Woman by Siphon (BRZ)) was favored at post time. English Sunrise (English Channel - California Sunset by Deputy Minister) was almsot 43-1. Almira Fawn looked good leaving the paddock. Kiama and Kiss in the Forest were off best, Eastern Atlantic (Stormy Atlantic - Echo d'Or by Eastern Echo) and Pulpation (Pulpit - Floral Beauty by Gone West) were not far off. Starting lowly were Endlesspossibility (Afleet Alex - Dutch's Duchess by Roy), Luna Luna (Malibu Moon - Elle Runaway by El Prado (IRE)), Asian Odyssey (Stormin Fever - Make a Deal by Private Terms), and Spirited Miss. English Sunrise was also near the back. Kiama and Kiss in the Forest continued 1-2, but moving into contention was Spirited Lady. Kiama pulled away from Kiss in the Forest, but she couldn't hold off Spirited Miss, who got up for a nice win. Kiama was clear in second, and Kiss in the Forest outfinished Pulpation for third. English Sunrise never really got involved, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

Winning With Squiggles

Jennifer Doll (Terrell - Tangara (NZ) by Kenfair (NZ)) and Crystal Copy (Cahill Road - Premo Copy by Supremo) were scratched. A. P. Anna (Under Caution - Uhadmeatneigh by In Excess (IRE)) was the even-money choice. Also getting play was first-timer Blue Squiggles (Marino Marini - Sunshine Dreamer by Lucky North), and Princess Kiha (Invasor (ARG) - Princess Belle by Mr. Greeley) garnered some attention at close to 5-1. She broke awkwardly, and trailed early. To the lead was favorite A. P. Anna, but she had company from Internal Flame (Flame Thrower - Herecomesyouandi by You and I). Watching this duel in third was Blue Squiggles. She made her move entering the stretch, rolled on by, taking the win by 4 1/2 lengths. A. P. Anna was no match for Blue Squiggles, but she was more than 3 in front of the others. Princess Kiha recovered from her poor start to capture third. Watch the Replay.

The Triumph of Oblivion

All nine ran on the Tapeta. Milania (Bernardini - Keeper Hill by Deputy Minister) was favored. Also getting play were Oblivion (Johar - March to the Sea by Mud Route) and Oh Frankie Oh (Benchmark - Barbara O'Brien by Eltish). Hardbody (Hard Spun - Zaheemah by El Prado (IRE)) was 9-1. Oh Frankie Oh and Swiss Laker Girl (Swiss Yodeler - Domasco Lake by Meadowlake) dueled early. Oblivion and Charming Bess (Peteski's Charm - Delay by Flying Continental) were up close, and Hardbody was sitting mid-pack. Oh Frankie Oh and Swiss Laker Girl continued to duel, but the fast action (:21.96, :45.98) took its toll, as Oblivion surged to the front. On the scene late was Milania, but she was too late to catch Oblivion, who was free by 4 lengths. Oh Frankie Oh and Swiss Laker Girl held well to take third and fourth, and Hardbody passed a few to take fifth. Watch the Replay.
