Red Duke (colt; Hard Spun - Saudia by Gone West) finished second in the Group II One Call Insurance Champagne Stakes at Doncaster behind Trumpet Major (Arakan - Ashford Cross (GB) by Cape Cross (IRE)). Red Duke has now run 5 times, with 2 wins, 1 second, 2 thirds, and earnings of $97,176.

Ann of the Dance (filly; English Channel - Dans La Ville (CHI) by Winning) was closing fast in the Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes (gr. III) at Arlington Park, but she came up a little short, finishing third behind Rocket Twentyone (Indian Charlie - Symphonic Lady by Blare of Trumpets) and Essence of Bubbles (Essence of Dubai - Silver Champagne by Silver Buck). Watch the Replay. Read more about the Arlington-Washington Lassie here.

Motor City (gelding; Street Sense - Shawgatny by Danzig Connection) settled at the back of the Arlington-Washington Futurity (gr. III). He steadily advanced through the stretch, encountered some traffic problems, but ran on, grabbing third behind Shared Property (Scat Daddy - Yoursmineours by Belong to Me) and Take Charge Indy (A.P. Indy - Take Charge Lady by Dehere). Motor City is the first stakes performer for his sire, Street Sense. Ormond Quay (colt; English Channel - Go Again Valid by Valid Appeal) was scratched. Glinda is Good

All seven ran on the fast track. Disposablepleasure (Giacomo - My Canada by With Approval) was favored, Glinda the Good (Hard Spun - Magical Flash by Miswaki) was almost 7-1. This was a nice-looking group. I was liking Party Hardy (Harlan's Holiday - Regrets Only by Black Tie Affair (IRE)) and Demi Tasse (Flatter - Zanja by Strawberry Road (AUS)), but couldn't fault the favorite on looks. Glinda the Good warmed up nicely. Party Hardy and Demi Tasse went for the lead, as Glinda the Good ducked in at the start. Demi Tasse established a clear advantage, with Party Hardy leading the rest of them. Disposablepleasure made a move to take second, and then hit the front. But, Glinda the Good set after her. She rolled on by on the outside to win by 1 1/2 lengths, and become Hard Spun's 15th winner. Watch the Replay.

Goodbye Aubby K

Awesome Maneuver (Awesome Again - Strategic Maneuver by Cryptoclearance) was scratched, leaving a compact field of 5 on the fast track. Aubby K (Street Sense - Lilly Capote by Capote) was favored, and Thisizsparta (Corinthian - Deputy Sue by Lotareason) was respected as well, at 2-1. She had some spunk in the paddock. Aubby K warmed up nicely. Spring Breeze (Congrats - Spring by Stravinsky) was off best, but Aubby K, who was a bit slow to leave the gate, set after her and was soon in front. Siberian Wildcat (Wildcat Heir - Artic Experience by Slewpy) made a move, but there was no catching Aubby K, who passed under the wire 15 1 /2 lengths in front. It was a long way back to second, where Thisizsparta got her nose in front of Siberian Wildcat. Aubby K is winner number 6 for Street Sense. Watch the Replay.

A Sweet Win

The track was fast, and Quickstep Melody (Rahy - Rockintotherhythm by Broad Brush) was the only scratch. Heat Exposure (Street Cry (IRE) - Xtra Heat by Dixieland Heat) was the early favorite, but Starsonhershoulder (Quiet American - Dress Grey by Lion Hearted) was the slight choice at post time. Sweet Seventeen (Hard Spun - Play Ballado by Saint Ballado) was 7-2. I kind of liked the look of Officer's Holiday (Officer - Illeria by Stop the Music). At the break, Heat Exposure made like mama Xtra Heat and went to the front. She was soon several lengths on top, while running the opening quarter in :21.63. Sweet Seventeen was leading the rest of them. The pack soon caught up to Heat Exposure, and rolled on by. It was Sweet Seventeen who led them, and she took the race by 1 1/2 lengths, despite running on her wrong lead. Jazzy Idea (Great Notion - Jazz Band by Dixieland Band) captured second, and Starsonhershoulder gained some for third. Heat Exposure ended up 9th (last) after her early speed. Sweet Seventeen is the 16th winner for Hard Spun. Watch the Replay.

Takes the Gold Takes the Win

The only scratch was Trade (Posse - Provincial by Pulpit), part of an entry with Covert Ops (Smoke Glacken - Collusion by Broad Brush). Takes the Gold (Corinthian - Marquet Rent by Marquetry) was the heavy favorite, based on his third behind future grade I winner Currency Swap. Takes the Gold looked good on the track. Longshot Ventura Bar (Officer - Ventura Hotel by Grand Slam) peaked my interest a bit. Takes the Gold went for the lead as expected, but he had company from Powerofone (A.P. Indy - Byzantine by Quiet American) and Saint Honore (Sun King - She Ain't a Saint by Meadowlake). Then, Gossip Column (Bandini - Hot Gossip by Java Gold) joined in the fun, as Powerofone dropped back. Takes the Gold took the lead of his own accord, and then began to draw off. He came home 3 1/4 lengths in front. Ventura Bar closed well for second, and Saint Honore hung around for third. Takes the Gold is the 5th winner for Corinthian. Watch the Replay.

Ready to Unleash on Grace

Monono (Whywhywhy - Cuz You Never Know by Dehere) was the only scratch, and the track was firm. Ready to Unleash (More Than Ready - Western Woman by West by West) was favored, Grace for Grace (English Channel - Sunette by Lil's Lad) was 4-1. She looked good, although a little on edge. I liked the look of Harmony Hills (Gaddis - Alpine Spring by Coronado's Quest) and Seamstress (Langfuhr - American Profile by Summer Squall). She's Lying Again (Political Force - Secret Sabre by Secret Slew) led early, with Emma's Encore (Congrats - French Opera by Wild Again) and Ready to Unleash up close. Grace for Grace was sitting off the pace, and Seamstress started slowly. Ready to Unleash shook free from her company, and established a clear lead. Emerging from the pack was Grace for Grace. She was steadily gaining on Ready to Unleash, but came up a length short. Harmony Hills and Seamstress both ran well late to finish third and fourth.

Ouch!

Gustofer Gor (Acceptable - Cash Red Jester by Orbit Dancer) was a late scratch. With Council (Lawyer Ron - With Flair by Broad Brush) was favored, but Madeira Park (Langfuhr - Capilano by Demons Begone) received plenty of attention as well. Strait of Dover (English Channel - Bahrain Star by Danzig) was almost 36-1. He looked sharp. With Council made a favorable impression. The start was decent. Ouch (Gilded Time - River's Reach by Wild Wonder) went to the lead, accompanied by Madeira Park and Belle Gallantey (After Market - Revealed by Old Trieste). Strait of Dover had a good spot in fourth, despite ducking in at the start. Ouch, Madeira Park, and Belle Gallantey were all battling, as With Council began to get involved. Ouch continued to hold them all off, however, winning by 1/2 length over Belle Gallantey and With Council. Madeira Park weakened to fourth, and Strait of Dover ended up fifth. Hard Spun seems to be off to a pretty good start as a sire. Predictable, I think, as he was a tough, no-nonsense, courageous racehorse and as classy as they come. Here's hoping some of his kids can claim to be the same.

Yes, Thank you for your work.  I really look forward to reading this each week.  There was a Pulpit filly who won big yesterday in Chicago who we'll be hearing from.  Can't remember her name but she won by nine over another nice Pulpit filly named Sacristy.

We have a half-brother to Monono named Only I Know at <a href="http://www.flyinggracing.com" title=”Flying G Racing Makes Thoroughbred Ownership Affordable Through Fractional Horse Racing Partnerships”>Flying G Racing</a>.  Flower Alley is the sire and after seeing Monono set a stakes record in the $70,000 Orleans, we're very excited!
