News and Notes

Channel Quest (gelding; English Channel - Primequest by Coronado's Quest) did not draw in off the AE list for race 9 at Belmont on September 11.

Nice win by Bet to Win (filly; Pulpit - Wild Crazy Lady by Touch Gold) in the 2nd at Arlington Park on September 11, as pointed out by commenter Smoking Baby. Bet to Win took the 6 furlong Maiden Special Weight on the Polytrack by an impressive 9 lengths over another Pulpit filly Sacristy (Pulpit - Christies Treasure by Belong to Me). Both fillies were making their first starts. Watch the Replay.

Two-year-old filly Ithinkisawapudycat (Bluegrass Cat - Unbridled Run by Unbridled) was a winner in her debut on September 11, taking a 6 furlong Maiden Special Weight at Louisiana Downs by 6.5 lengths. Watch the Replay.

No workout updates today, sleep is calling me. Hopefully, I'll get back on track tomorrow.

Maiden Results

Journalistic (colt; Street Sense - Cajun Two Step by Tabasco Cat) led late in his contest at Ffos Las, a mile maiden race run on good to soft turf, but was outfinished by Silver Lime (Mizzen Mast - Red Dot by Diesis (GB), and had to settle for second.

A Sensible Victory

Pure Navy (Officer - Purer Than Pure by Turkoman) was the only scratch, and the track was fast. First-timer Classica (Pure Prize - Countessof Chevron by Flying Chevron) was favored. Sensible Lady (Street Sense - Awesome Lady by Bianconi) was more than 7-1, despite finishing 3rd in her debut. She brushed with Run Mommy Run (The Daddy - Pretty Run by Storm Cat) after the start, but went to the front anyway. She had company from Moment Sea (Mediterranean Sea - Foolish Moment by Rock Slide) and Acallforjoe (El Nino - Acallabove by Great Above) early. She sprinted free from the pack, building up a several length advantage. Moment Sea, Acallforjoe, and Dixieland Bride (Dixieland Band - Le Marais by Unbridled's Song) were in pursuit. Half a Notion (Half Ours - Ermelinda by Sea Hero) moved into second, as Sensible Lady continued to lead. Favorite Classica was running well late, but it was too late to catch Sensible Lady, who became Street Sense's 7th winner by 1 3/4 lengths. Classica was a neck better than Half a Notion, and Acallforjoe ran evenly to claim fourth. Watch the Replay.

Banded a Winner

Rocket Dee (Mutakddim - Riviera Mill by Royal Academy) was scratched, leaving 6 on the fast track. Bronxgirl (Corinthian - Dance Darling by Devil's Bag) was made the favorite, after her promising third first time out. Also getting plenty of play were Tapit to Me (Tapit - My Miss Emily by Regal Intention) and Wade County (Montbrook - Lilly'softhefield by Struggler (GB)). Suivez Moi (First Samurai - Avie's Trick by Lord Avie) acted up during the load, but was out quickly, battling with East Side Charley (Mr. Greeley - Keeneland Kat by Hennessy). Bronxgirl was in a decent spot. Off slowly was debuting Banded (Bandini - Rebalite by More Than Ready), who spotted the field at least 6 lengths. Suivez Moi and East Side Charley continued on top, with Bronxgirl chasing. Suivez Moi pulled away from East Side Charley, and assumed the solo lead. But, motoring late was the slow-starting Banded. She swept by everyone, and took the victory by a length. Suivez Moi held second over Wade County. East Side Charley and Bronxgirl weakened to fourth and fifth, and Tapit to Me completed the field in 6th. Watch the Replay.

Somali Lemonade Squeezes a Win

Cloud Bank (Afleet Alex - Maria's Storm by Maria's Mon) was scratched, along with the AEs and the MTOs. The turf was good. Patrice Merion (English Channel - Scrofa by Unusual Heat) was made the heavy favorite based on her third-place finish in her debut against the boys, and her connections of Todd Pletcher and John Velazquez. The second choice was 7-1 debut runner Countess Theodora (More Than Ready - Lady in Power by Defensive Play). There was a scramble for the early lead, but Patrice Merion was far from it near the back. Dixie Darling (Dixie Union - Holy Way by Holy Bull) and Single (Pulpit - Love Match by Partner's Hero) emerged from the pack, with Woodford Lady (Sharp Humor - Kings Lynn by Mt. Livermore) just behind them. The leading pair continued unchanged, but behind them Conquesta (Empire Maker - Turn to Lass by Bright Launch) was making a menacing move. She swept by the leaders, and established a several length lead. But, the race was not over yet, as closing from even farther back was Somali Lemonade (Lemon Drop Kid - Chic Corine by Nureyev). Conquesta had no answer for that one, as Somali Lemonade took the victory by 1 3/4 lengths. Conquesta was 5 in front of Sweet and Lovely (Street Cry (IRE) - Sunbeam Music by Fly So Free), who was in the mix from the start. Single held on to fourth, although her fellow-pacesetter Dixie Darling tired to 11th (last). Patrice Merion never did much running, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

The Winning Slice

All eleven ran on the Polytrack. Dads Shooting Star (Unbridled's Song - King Shooting Star by Storm Cat) was the 2-1 choice, but Ribbon Taffy (Hard Spun - Partyship by Premiership) got a lot of play as well. Night Dance (Street Sense - Fly to the Stars by Giant's Causeway) was 8-1. Slice (Sharp Humor - Maricot by Honour and Glory) and Maricela Princess (David Copperfield - Prelude to Puddles by Storm Boot) broke best, but they were soon joined by Dads Shooting Star, with Magheetah (Consolidator - Beau's Regal Gal by Beau Genius) up close as well. Maricela Princess and Dads Shooting Star were dueling, but Magheetah split those two and joined the lead. Slice was in a good spot watching this action. Also in a nice spot on the rail was Night Dance. Slice hit the lead, but was drifting out, and let Dads Shooting Star back in the race. Slice straightened out again, and went on to win by 2 1/4 lengths. Dads Shooting Star was another 3 1/4 lengths in front of Magheetah. I Kickd Da Sheriff (Kipling - Pure Principles by Hero's Honor) closed well for fourth, and Night Dance stalled in 5th. Ribbon Taffy rallied a bit on outside, but couldn't keep it up and finished 7th.
