Awesome Fire Outshines the Sunrise

All eight fillies ran on the Polytrack. Belle of the Nile (Essence of Dubai - Always Belle by Always a Classic) was the heavy favorite, based on her second behind Evil Kitten on August 21. English Sunrise (English Channel - California Sunset by Deputy Minister) was 13-1. I was liking debuting Wish for Success (Closing Argument - Our Lady's Wish by Secret Claim) on the track, but English Sunrise made a favorable impression as well. She did seem to get a little anxious as post time approached. Guppy Smuggler (Eddington - Offshore News by Boston Harbor) looked good warming up. There was a scramble for the early lead, with Muttak Bay (Mutakddim - Clubay by Schossberg), Marianna (Pure Prize - Lee Ann Rocks by Halos and Horns), and English Sunrise in the mix. Wish for Success and Guppy Smuggler bumped at the start, which kind of knocked Wish for Success out. Marianna took the lead from her inside post, with Muttak Bay chasing. Belle of the Nile made a big move on the outside to join the top pair. Marianna began to retreat, and it was left to Muttak Bay and Belle of the Nile. Or so it seemed, until Awesome Fire (Strong Contender - Awesome Lass by Awesome Again) rolled by those of these, posting a 2 length win. And who was that rallying late for second? None other than English Sunrise. Muttak Bay held third, Guppy Smuggler ran evenly for fourth, and favorite Belle of the Nile had to settle for fifth. Check out the show prices in this one. Apparently, we had some bridge jumpers supporting Belle of the Nile. I was pretty pleased with my $2 across the board on English Sunrise, and pleased with her performance, as she looked like a runner out there. Watch the Replay.

I am loving these English Channels.  His book was not filled with many royally bred or super successful racemares, but his progeny are tough, gritty little things.  I think he is going to be a very pleasant surprise as a sire and improve the mares to whom he is bred.

I agree - I am liking the English Channels - also the Hard Spuns and Lawyer Rons.

Hat Trick will outshine them all.  I can't understand why North America let Sunday Silence go and even stranger is the fact that no one (until recently) has tried to stand one of his sons in NA.  Hat Trick's son Dabirism (sp?) already has 1 GR1 win and will run again at Longchamps in another GR1.  I loved Sunday Silence!
