News and Notes

Stephanoatsee (A.P. Indy - Oatsee by Unbridled), 2-year-old half brother to 2011 Preakness winner Shackleford, debuted today in a mile race at Laurel, closing well to finish second to the more experienced Who Dat Boy (Cherokee's Boy - Slow and Steady by Malibu Moon). Watch the Replay.

Race 9 at Belmont Park stayed on the turf, so Street Savy (Street Sense - Home Court by Storm Cat) was scratched. However, I included a recap of the race below. Street Savy is also entered Sunday and Wednesday, so hopefully she will get to run soon.

Stakes Result

I Sense Your Luck (filly; Street Sense - Racing Luck by Out of Place) finished 4th in the 7 furlong Phil D. Shepherd Stakes at Fairplex Park, behind heavy-favorite Candrea (Trippi - Burn Brightly by American Chance), who won by 4 lengths.

Maiden Results

Abhaath (colt; Hard Spun - Above Perfection by In Excess (IRE)) ran well late in his 7 furlong contest on the All-Weather track at Wolverhampton, finishing second behind Fiction Or Fact (IRE) (Dutch Art (GB) - Fable (GB) by Absalom (GB)).

A Honey of a Win

Street Savy (Street Sense - Home Court by Storm Cat) and her fellow MTOs were scratched, the other 12 ran on the firm turf. Sweet Zapper (Ghostzapper - Sweet Symphony by A.P. Indy) was the lukewarm 3-1 favorite. Remarkable Moon (Lemon Drop Kid - Moravia by A.P. Indy) had some spring in her step. I was liking Assateague (Stormy Atlantic - Amelia by Dixieland Band) and Ezpz Lemon Squeeze (Pure Prize - We Got a Lemon by Lemon Drop Kid). 100-1 Inner Joy (Mayakovsky - Inner Thoughts by Swain (IRE)) went to the front. Assateague, Rock On Home (Rock Hard Ten - Escape From Home by Came Home), and Honey Talk (Distorted Humor - Sweet Talker by Stormin Fever) were in pursuit. Favorite Sweet Zapper was in the back. Inner Talk began to retreat after a half, with Rock On Home inheriting the lead. Assateague was still there as well. Sweet Zapper continued to linger at the back. Rock On Home was the next to throw in the towel. She left it to Honey Talk and Assateague, who battled to the wire. It was a head bob at the finish, with Honey Talk getting her nose in front. Sweet Zapper was gobbling up ground late, to finish just a nose behind Assateague in third. Watch the Replay.

Hennessy River Streams Away from Princess Kiha

Charming Bess (Peteski's Charm - Delay by Flying Continental) was a late scratch, leaving 7 on the Tapeta. Princess Kiha (Invasor (ARG) - Princess Belle by Mr. Greeley) took the early money, but Zefina (After Market - Strong Faith by Pioneering) was the 4-5 choice at post time. Princess Kiha looked good on the track, and I was also liking Just After Sunset (Explicit - Amazing Sky by Sky Classic). Hennessy River (Johannesburg - River Thames by Kayrawan) and Zefina dueled for the early lead, with Princess Kiha watching the action at the back of the pack. Hennessy River shook free in the stretch, and began to pull away. She went on to win by 5 lengths. Princess Kiha made some progress on the outside, and then rallied on the inside to grab second late. Crystal Copy (Cahill Road - Premo Copy by Supremo) was along for third, and Zefina tired to fourth. Watch the Replay.
