A Shakespearan Win
Ur (Giant's Causeway - Sue's Last Dance by Forty Niner) was scratched, as well as MTO entrant Trumpet Man (Lawyer Ron - Singing Year by Half a Year). The turf was firm. Longwood Lane (Langfuhr - Forty Moves by Gold Fever) was favored, Knock Rock (Corinthian - Lady Cozzette by Cozzene) was a tick under 4-1, and Channel Quest (English Channel - Primequest by Coronado's Quest) was 26-1. He set the early pace, sprinting several lengths free of the pack. The closest pursuers were Awesome's Eleven (Awesome Again - Remember Love by A.P. Indy) and Liquidity Trap (El Prado (IRE) - Shy Greeting (ARG) by Shy Tom). Knock Rock was sitting mid-pack. Channel Quest began to tire in the stretch, as Liquidity Trap made a move to hit the front. Longwood Lane was trying to come on, but encountered some traffic problems. Rolling 4-wide was Shkspeare Shaliyah (Shakespeare - Tricky Mistress by Clever Trick), who went on by to post a 1/2 length victory. Liquidity Trap held 2nd over Knock Rock, who was running well late to pick up the show spot. It was good to see him maintaining a straight path after finishing on the outside rail last time out. Longwood Lane had to settle for fourth, and Channel Quest weakened to 5th after setting the pace. Shkspeare Shaliyah is the fourth winner for Shakespeare. Watch the Replay.

Bagatelle Park Brings It Home
Holy Wine (Holy Bull - Flows Like Wine by Mt. Livermore) and Mekong Delta (Stormy Atlantic - South Sea Blues by Cure the Blues), part of an entry with Embur's Melody (Mr. Greeley - Embur Sunshine by Bold Ruckus), were scratched. Bagatelle Park (Speightstown - Moonshine Gal by Forest Wildcat) was the heavy favorite. English Crossing (English Channel - Lady Solvig by Giant's Causeway) was 15-1. Essences Best (Seeking the Best (IRE) - El Prado Essence by El Prado (IRE)) set the early pace, pursued by Pearl Bay (Rush Bay - Magic Pearl by Stormy Atlantic) and Bagatelle Park. English Crossing was in 4th early. Marcian (Roman Ruler - Nessarose by Deputy Commander) hopped at the start, and was near the back. On the turn, Pearl Bay and Bagatelle Park moved, overtaking Essences Best. They stayed together for a time, before Bagatelle Park pulled free for a 2 1/2 length victory. Solid Appeal (Successful Appeal - Star of the Woods by Woodman) came along to nip Pearl Bay for second. Also making up some ground at the end was Gatineau (Northern Afleet - Indivia by Tiznow), who was 4th. English Crossing finished 6th. Watch the Replay.

Singn to the Winner's Circle
As predicted Street Savy (Street Sense - Home Court by Storm Cat) was scratched, along with the other MTO Vacationing (Harlan's Holiday - Seattle Qui by Seattle Slew), as well as Assateague (Stormy Atlantic - Amelia by Dixieland Band), Bargain Blitz (Rahy - Freedom of Speech by Danzig), Mystic Mama (Scat Daddy - Runaway Grey by Runaway Groom), The Winged Venus (Rock Hard Ten - Thanksgiving (GER) by Lomitas (GB)), and Wait Til Dawn (Giant's Causeway - Path of Thunder by Thunder Gulch). Street Savy is entered Wednesday (see preview below). The turf was firm for the remaining 5 fillies. Fashion's Flight (Dixie Union - General Jeanne by Honour and Glory), whose previous running was in England, was made the odds-on choice. Singn On Themoon (Malibu Moon - Listen to My Song by Unbridled's Song) went to the front, and set a tepid pace, :25.05, :51.12, 1:16.00. Her nearest pursuers were Richbelle (With Distinction - Misty Springs by Wild Again) and Cluain Meala (Service Stripe - Honey's Sky by Sky Classic). Fashion's Flight, who was on the outside for most of the contest, began to run in the stretch, and was gradually gaining on the leader. But, Singn On Themoon could not be caught after setting that slow pace, and was 1/2 length free at the finish. Fashion's Flight took second by 1 1/2 lengths over Richbelle, who was 1 1/4 lengths in front of McCarren Park (Posse - History by Coronado's Quest). Cluain Meala faded to fifth (last). Watch the Replay.

This is the third time that Street Savy (Street Sense - Home Court by Storm Cat) has been entered in the past week. However, this time I think she is going to run, because she is in the main field of a dirt race, rather than an MTO in a turf race. Also finishing second in her only start at Saratoga was Holiday Broad (Harlan's Holiday - Countess Godiva by Grand Slam), who ran 5 furlongs on August 25. She was a $60,000 yearling, and is the second foal out of the unraced mare Countess Godiva. Countess Godiva is a half sister to 7 winners, including grade III winners Miss Turkana, Grafin, and Genovefa.
Mine Own (Mineshaft - Expose by Quiet American) was also second in her only race, a mile and 70 yard contest at Monmouth on August 20. She sold for $95,000 as a yearling, and is a half sister to the winner Royal World. On Parade is a full sister to grade I winner Storm Flag Flying, who was 2002 Champion 2-year-old filly; and a half sister to 2 winners, including stakes winner With Flying Colors. On Parade's dam is grade I winner My Flag, a daughter of the great Personal Ensign.
