Stakes Result

Questing (filly; Hard Spun - Chercheuse by Seeking the Gold) went right to the front in the 7 furlong group III Sakhee Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket. She ran hard to the finish, but just couldn't hold off Alsindi (IRE) (Acclamation (GB) - Needles and Pins (IRE) by Fasliyev, who was flying late. Questing did hold second over Nayarra (IRE) (Cape Cross (IRE) - Massarra (GB) by Danehill). Watch Replay.

Maiden Results

Police Force (colt; Street Sense - Land of Dreams (GB) by Cadeaux Genereux (GB)) finished fourth in his 6 furlong Maiden Race at Haydock. He was rank early, and ran on a little at the end. Watch Replay.

A Suprise Ending

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. The Things You Did (Honour and Glory - The Things You Do by Partner's Hero) was favored by a couple of ticks over Noble Trickster (Noble Causeway - Golden Trick by Phone Trick). Suprise Ending (English Channel - Emily's Angel by Saint Ballado) wasn't given much shot at better than 10-1. Noble Trickster broke running. Soul of a Samurai (First Samurai - Flame Trick by Mt. Livermore) went after him early, but soon retreated. More persistent pursuit came from Suprise Ending. These two dueled throughout the stretch, pulling farther and farther away from the others. In the end, it was Suprise Ending who pulled away for a 1 1/4 length victory. Noble Trickster was more than 7 in front of the rest, who were led by Great Life (Pleasant Tap - Life's Great by Mt. Livermore). Suprise Ending is the 5th winner for English Channel. Watch the Replay.

Singing Conquers the Obsession

AE entrant Kicker (Hard Spun - Tenga by Mr. Prospector) was scratched, along with Tale of Utopia (Utopia (JPN) - Tarrah's Tale by Tale of the Cat) and Smiling Mis (Langfuhr - Starr Mis by Miswaki). The turf was firm for the remaining 10. Songs and Sonnets (Unbridled's Song - Bedanken by Geri) was the odd-on choice, and Cherishd Obsession (Corinthian - Silver Wench by Silver Ghost) was 10-1. Interesting wagering on the two Kitten's Joys. Tipsy (Kitten's Joy - Chianti Red by Woodman) took all the early money, and Promise Me Joy (Kitten's Joy - Jacqui's Promise by Loup Sauvage) was getting play late, but in the end both went off at 7-1. Cherishd Obsession made a favorable impression, and I was kind of liking first-timer Thecushmaker (Repent - Pincher Creek by Storm Creek). However, I couldn't fault the favorite on looks. Cherishd Obsession objected a bit at the load, and needed a shove in the gate. Rekam (More Than Ready - Power of the Pad by Siphon (BRZ)) offered more resistance. Cherishd Obsession went right to the front, with Songs and Sonnets after her. Tipsy was just off of these. Thecushmaker and Rekam bumped at the start. Songs and Sonnets moved closer to Cherishd Obsession, as these two separated from the others, and then put her head in front, but Cherishd Obsession did not give in. Songs and Sonnets took it at the wire by a head, over a very determined and game Cherishd Obsession. Running well late was Thecushmaker, who went by Tipsy to claim the show spot. Watch the Replay.

War Plays with the Wicked

Henrietta's Prayer (Giacomo - Gainsboroughs Gal by Labeeb (GB)) was the only scratch, and the track was muddy. First-timer War Play (War Image - Tune Lender by Banker's Gold) was favored, Clearly Wicked (Corinthian - Tzara Band by Dixieland Band) was given a shot at 5-1. War Play wasted no time, going straight to the lead. Wilqueen (Wilko - Holy Queen by Holy Bull) and Duchess of Spain (Proud Citizen - Royal Illusion by Louis Quatorze) set after her, but War Play was already 5 lengths ahead after a half. Clearly Wicked, who was mid-pack early, began to make up ground. She passed most of them, but had no answer for War Play, who won by an eye-catching 12 3/4 lengths. Clearly Wicked was more than 6 in front of third-place Duchess of Spain (Proud Citizen - Royal Illusion by Louis Quatorze), who in turn was 6 better than Giacomae Mountain (Giacomo - Cadillac Mountain by Trempolino). The field was a little strung out on this muddy track. War Play's sire War Image, has 11 named foals over 4 years. War Play is his second winner. Watch the Replay.
