News and Notes

Neither Van Tassel (Corinthian - Adorahy by Rahy) nor Hope Still Springs (Corinthian - Restored Hope by He's Bad) made in into the gate for the 7th at Belmont. However, the recap is included below. Our only September 29 race is in England, so I will also preview a September 30 race, and not post another blog until Friday. If any more Friday entries come in, I'll add them to this post.

September 28 Results

Journalistic (colt; Street Sense - Cajun Two Step by Tabasco Cat) led most of the way at Salisbury, and Circus Mondao (colt; Hard Spun - Dominique's Show by Theatrical (IRE)) came on late after encountering traffic, but they were both passed by debuting Oxford Charley (colt; Lemon Drop Kid - La Sarto by Cormorant), who was rolling on the outside. Still, a good effort from both of ours, especially Circus Mondao, who was making his first start. Watch the Replay.

Winning With Swagger

Van Tassel (Corinthian - Adorahy by Rahy) was scratched, and the track was fast. Thewizardofnassau (Tiznow - Worth Fighting For by Broken Vow) was favored, and first-timer Jeter (Lawyer Ron - Biogio's Beauty by Distorted Humor) was also getting plenty of attention from the bettors. Hope Still Springs (Corinthian - Restored Hope by He's Bad) was 7-1, but he looked ready. The favorite put in a good appearance, but I was liking Think I'm Hooked (Hook and Ladder - Mighty Emy by Mighty Adversary) and Swag Daddy (Scat Daddy - Mrs. Filio by Eastern Echo) in the post parade. Thewizardofnassau was not very interested in going in the gate. He sparked a series of misbehaving at the barrier. Hope Still Springs was not immune. He reared at the load, dumping his rider, and took off. He looked pretty good sprinting off, but was scratched after bounding away. He will be back another day. There was a delay, as Hope Still Springs was caught and led off the track. Finally, the remaining horses were back in the gate. Missilewhileuwork (Golden Missile - Carr Queen by Carr de Naskra) took advantage of his rail position to seize the early lead, shadowed by Thewizardofnassau. Sky Colors (Carry My Colors - Persky (ARG) by Candy Stripes) was off slowly. Missilewhileuwork continued to lead, but Thewizardofnassau was getting closer. Also on the move was Swag Daddy. Thewizardofnassau took the lead, but Swag Daddy was right there. He surged to lead, and went on to post a length victory. Thewizardofnassau was 2 lengths clear of the rest, who were led by Think I'm Hooked in third, followed by Jeter, Gossip Column (Bandini - Hot Gossip by Java Gold), Missilewhileuwork, and Sky Colors, who never recovered from his slow start. Swag Daddy is winner number 19 for Scat Daddy. Watch the Replay.
