Grace for Grace (filly; English Channel - Sunette by Lil's Lad) finished a decent 5th in the JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes (gr. III) run on yielding turf at Keeneland. She was no match for winner Somali Lemonade (Lemon Drop Kid - Chic Corine by Nureyev) or 2nd-place Sweet Cat (Kitten's Joy - Claire's Smile by Carson City), but she was only a couple of lengths from third. Somali Lemonade is now a perfect 2 for 2, and is headed to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Jessamine here.

Full of Run

Bluegrass Shoes (Bluegrass Cat - Pink Shoes by Phone Trick) was the only scratch. Full (More Than Ready - Total by Forest Wildcat) opened as the lukewarm 3-1 favorite, and went down from there. Cytherean (Street Sense - Venusberg (ARG) by Southern Halo) was 7-1, and looked good at first glance. I was liking Fifty Five South (Cuvee - Greyciousness by Miswaki). Icon Ike (Yes It's True - Robbie's Gal by Straight Man) and Al Musaddad (Medaglia d'Oro - Jawaaneb by Kingmambo) caught my eye as well. It was debuting Hilarium (Sharp Humor - Kiawah Queen by Lord At War (ARG)) who went to the front, pressed by Fifty Five South. Also close were Icon Ike and Cytherean, who was on the outside on account of his post. Oak Harbor (Bernstein - Orient Pearl by Manila) was squeezed at the start, and trailed. Hilarium continued on top, and began to get away a little. But, rallying into the picture was Full, who rolled on by for a 1/2 length win. Hilarium was 2 lengths in front of the others, led by Icon Ike, who was a head better than a closing Santonio d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro - Murky Waters by Storm Creek). Cytherean tired to 11th (last) after his early action. Watch the Replay.

Cherishd Obsession (Corinthian - Silver Wench by Silver Ghost) will try to make start number three in this one, scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Hawthorne. I am a bit skeptical about the turf part of the equation, as they were off the turf today at Hawthorne, and the main track was sloppy. If the race does come off the turf, it will be interesting to see if Cherishd Obsession stays in the race. Her previous starts were both on the turf at Arlington Park. She was 2nd at a mile on yielding turf on August 25, 2 lengths behind the Hard Spun filly Tripping, and also finished 2nd at a mile and a sixteenth on firm turf on September 23, just a head behind the winner. She set the pace in that race, and fought back after behing headed. Her most recent work was at Hawthorne on October 8, when she went 4 furlongs in :49.60 on the dirt. Cherishd Obsession was purchased for $39,000 as a yearling, and is out of stakes-placed Silver Wench, who was a winner on the turf. Nice race last night for Yvete Sangalo. I am suprised that she went off at 11 to 1 and glad I made a small win get on her. Is she Hard Spun's first US stakes winner?
