News and Notes

Racing was canceled at Belmont after the third race, so Spin Out (Hard Spun - Island Queen by Ogygian) and Rapacious (Street Sense - Hidden Pleasure by Proper Reality) and did not get to run in the sixth on October 29. Billy O (colt; Corinthian - Zada Rae by Unbridled's Song) also stayed in the barn, as Parx canceled racing.

We had 19 Maiden Watch horses entered on October 30, but racing has been canceled at Belmont Park, and there were a couple of scratches, so those numbers have been reduced. I have listed the remaining entries below, but will not do any previews for these races.

El Padrino Proves Best

Commitment Letter (Empire Maker - Costume Designer by Capote) and Love to Run (Pulpit - I Love America by Quiet American) were scratched. El Padrino (Pulpit - Enchanted Rock by Giant's Causeway) was favored, and Hear the Word (Corinthian - Finery by Lear Fan) was 42-1. The track was sloppy, and visibility was low due to the blowing snow. Restitution (Smart Strike - Lassie's Legacy by Deputy Minister) and Color Cam (Cherokee Run - Rainbow Girl by Conquistador Cielo) mixed it up early. Hear the Word was way, way behind the others, according to the chart 12 lengths behind the 5th horses. Restitution put Color Cam away, but El Padrino was coming. He went on by, and kept on running, to win by more than 12. Situational Ethics (Broken Vow - Ayla Bella by Touch Gold) came on to be best of the rest. There was a photo for third, which went to Hear the Word, who made up a lot of ground after his leisurely start. Watch the Replay.

The Rush Gets to Cerce Cay

The race was taken off of the turf, and run at 1 1/8 miles on the Polytrack. However, all 8 fillies stayed in the race. Goldrush Girl (Political Force - Chasethegold by Touch Gold) was the heavy favorite, Cerce Cay (Hard Spun - Timely Legend by Navorone) was 8-1. She went right to the lead, tracked by Goldrush Girl. These two remained 1-2 into the stretch. At that point Goldrush Girl made her move, and went by. But, Cerce Cay did not give up so easily. She fought back, and regained the territory lost to Goldrush Girl. They finished as a team, with Goldrush Girl just a head in front. Watch the Replay.

Other October 29 Results

Midnight Vader (colt; Invasor - Allou by Seattle Slew) tracked the pacesetter in race 3 at Mountaineer, a mile Maiden Special Weight on the sloppy track. He kept coming and coming, and finally got by to break his maiden in his 8th try. I guess he just had to get away from those Ohio-breds. Clearly Wicked (filly; Corinthian - Tzara Band by Dixieland Band) was scratched out of the race. Midnight Vader is the third winner for Invasor. Watch the Replay.

Afford (colt; Street Sense - Unaffordable by Unbridled) was favored in his debut in race 7 at Hawthorne, a 6 furlong Maiden Special Weight race, but got a little tired late and finished a respectable third. Watch the Replay.
