The Girl's a Winner

Changingoftheguard (Changeintheweather - Gala Goldie's Best by Phone Trick) was scratched, leaving 6 on the fast track. Bronxgirl (Corinthian - Dance Darling by Devil's Bag) was the heavy favorite, and looked the part in the paddock. She continued to make a good impression on the track. I was liking Macho Senora (Macho Uno - Nicky Santoro by Running Stag) a bit. Bronxgirl went right to the front. The rest were in a bunch. Bronxgirl continued to lead, with Fantast Tapit (Tapit - Fantast by Luhuk) closing the gap in second. Fantast Tapit made a race of it for awhile, but then Bronxgirl spurted away, to win by 5 3/4 lengths. Fantast Tapit was clear in second, with Thicket (Successful Appeal - Tulia by West by West) taking third. Run Mommy Run (The Daddy - Pretty Run by Storm Cat), Beguiled Again (Closing Argument - Wild Bea by Wild Rush), and Macho Senora finished up the field. Bronxgirl is the 13th winner for Corinthian. No Luck Required

Lightly Wound (Hard Spun - Frolicing by Royal Academy) was scratched, and AE entrant Slamit (Grand Slam - Excedius by Seattle Dancer) drew into the field. The other AEs were out. First-timer Ever So Lucky (Indian Charlie - Bally Storm by Summer Squall) took all the money, early, middle, and late. He was less than even money at post time. Hard Bourbon (Hard Spun - Leona's Knight by Suave Prospect) was 84-1. Debuting Quiet Man (Touch Gold - Meadow Skippin by Skip Away) caught my eye in the paddock. I thought Slamit was interesting, holding at double-digit odds after drawing into the race. The load was long, as first one and then another 2-year-old protested. Saturday's Charm (Any Given Saturday - Pout by Deputy Minister) and Slamit were the worst offenders. The start was decent, although Do I Do (Stevie Wonderboy - Our Secret by Forestry) was off a bit slowly. Bluegrass Shoes (Bluegrass Cat - Pink Shoes by Phone Trick) took a brief lead, but Small Token (Bandini - Mims Eppi by Cactus Ridge) and Ever So Lucky soon overtook him. Ever So Lucky took the lead, and Saturday's Child and Small Token went after him. Ever So Lucky was too much for his pursuers, as he pulled away for an easy 3 1/4 length win. Golden Ticket (Speightstown - Business Plan by Deputy Minister) came running to pick up second, well-clear of third-place Saturday's Charm. Quiet Man and Slamit were both going well late to finish 4th and 5th. Hard Bourbon split the field in 6th. Watch the Replay.

The Right Selection

Only the AEs, including Winston C (Corinthian - The Happy Hopper by El Prado (IRE)), and the MTO were scratched, and the turf was firm. Dendrite (Rockport Harbor - Tustin by Conquistador Cielo) was favored at 5-2, Marco's Bon Vivant (Hard Spun - Staraway by Star de Naskra) was almost 6-1, and Plausibly (Street Sense - Supposedly by Polish Numbers) was 38-1. The start was good. Fly Ride (Street Cry (IRE) - Gran Senorita by El Gran Senor) was on the lead, but he had company from Balance the Budget (Bellamy Road - Every Day Is Good by El Corredor) and Dendrite. Plausibly had some traffic trouble early. Fly Ride continued to lead, but Balance the Budge and Dendrite were applying more pressure. Coming on the outside was Selection Sunday (Harlan's Holiday - Ntombi by Quiet American), who wore down his competition to get a length win. Yes, it was the 11 horse winning this contest on 11/11/11, and he went off at 11-1. Dendrite held second by a neck over Marco's Bon Vivant, who was finishing well on the inside. It shouldn't be much longer before he breaks his maiden. Plausibly never really recovered from his early troubles, and finished 11th. Watch the Replay.

That Van Tassel beat was a tough one. I seem to be on the wrong end of a lot of these lately. Marketing Mix was impressive. She really had no competition in there.
