Lady Clara a Clear Winner

With the surface switch to the good main track, Bonjour Belle (Elusive Quality - Belle Cherie by Belong to Me), Almusafa (Haafhd (GB) - Basaata by Dixieland Band), Coup (Empire Maker - French Lady (NZ) by Entrepreneur (GB)), She's Striking (Smart Strike - Top Notch Lady by Sultry Song), and Market Princess (After Market - Noble Idea by Deputy Minister) were scratched. On the other hand, MTOs Vacationing (Harlan's Holiday - Seattle Qui by Seattle Slew) and Sea Island (Pulpit - Resort by Pleasant Colony) got to run, and Sea Island was made the favorite. Lady Clara (Hard Spun - Victorica by Exbourne), who was adding blinkers, was 15-1, but she looked good on the track. I also liked the look of Vacationing. He Loves Me More (More Than Ready - He Loves Me by Not For Love) was off slowly, the rest got away well. Hanalei (Bob and John - Bates Choice by Bates Motel) set the early pace, pressed by Sea Island. Lady Clara was not far off in fourth. Sea Island took a short lead, but Lady Clara was coming. She outfought Sea Island to get the win by a neck. Clarinda (Empire Maker - Miss Mary Apples by Clever Trick) hung around for third, and Tizfirst (Tiznow - Number One Cat by Storm Cat) made up some spots to finish fourth. Lady Clara is winner number 23 for Hard Spun. Watch the Replay.

Winning is a Mystery

All 6 ran on the muddy track. Hard Mystery (Hard Spun - Summer Rainbow by Summer Squall) opened at 1-9. She drifted up a bit from there, but was still favored at post time. Also getting play was Darling Bridezilla (D'wildcat - Darling Bride by Unbridled). I liked the look of Dance With Gio (Dance With Raves - Gracious Megan by Safe Prospect). The start was good. Dublin Rose (Smoke Glacken - Elizabethswildrose by Hennessy) and Darling Bridezilla went for the lead, with the latter filly snagging it. Hard Mystery was in fourth early. Up front, Dublin Rose moved even with Darling Bridezilla, but the latter filly shook free from her, and Dublin Rose retreated. Coming on the outside was Hard Mystery. She caught Darling Bridezilla, but she was stubborn and didn't go down easily. Finally, Hard Mystery pulled away for a 1/2 victory, becoming the 24th winner for Hard Spun. Darling Bridezilla was well-clear of third-place Hotnslick (Crafty Friend - Sweet Cali Cat by Tabasco Cat), and it was eight more lengths back to Dance With Gio in fourth. No It Isn't (Yes It's True - Carol D by High Yield) and Dublin Rose completed the finish. Interestingly, Pasta Lover, full brother to Dance With Gio, finished a game second in the 8th race at Monmouth on November 18. Watch the Replay.

How Do I Win (ridgling; Corinthian - Silver Crown by Distorted Humor) was the heavy favorite in race 7 at Aqueduct, a 6 furlong Starter Allowance. He went for the early lead, but Eye Witness (Fusaichi Pegasus - Tiz a Fantasy by Tiznow) was right there. These two dueled for a time. How Do I Win won that battle, but it seemed like he would lose the war, as Copy My Swagger (Easing Along - Danse Kongo by Petionville) was coming. But, How Do I Win turned back that rival as well, and went on to win by 3 lengths. He now has 2 wins and a third in 5 starts, and has earned $51,000. Watch the Replay.

Artest (colt; Hard Spun - Desire to Excel by Mt. Livermore) was involved from the beginning of race 2 at Aqueduct, a 6 furlong Allowance/Optional Claiming race, and successfully fought off favorite Spring to the Sky (Langfuhr - Seek to Soar by Seeking the Gold). But he was weakened by the effort, and couldn't hold off He Can Run (Successful Appeal - Another by Seattle Slew). Still, a productive second for Artest after the long lay-off. Watch the Replay.
