Inny Minnie (Hard Spun - Inny River by Seattle Slew) and Yvete Sangalo (Hard Spun - Ya Tarra (GB) by Unbridled) finished just a nose apart in second and third in the Delta Downs Princess Stakes (gr. III) at Delta Downs, as Inny Minnie was involved early, and Yvete Sangalo closed from far back. They were four lengths behind impressive winner Now I Know (Pure Prize - Now U Know by Maria's Mon), but they are now both graded stakes-placed, and should continue to move forward. Favorite Candrea (Trippi - Burn Brightly by American Chance) beat one filly, and finished 9th. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Delta Downs Princess here.

Sensible Lady (filly; Street Sense - Awesome Lady by Bianconi) finished 7th in the 6 furlong Smart Halo Stakes at Laurel Park. She broke outward and bumped a rival at the start, and was wide for much of the race. The winner was favorite Defy Gravity (Bandini - Quickset by Forest Wildcat), who wore down Dance to Bristol (Speightstown - Dance to Dawn by Louis Quatorze) for a 1/2 length win. Watch the Replay.

Disco On Springs the Upset

The race was run on the good turf and all 10 in the main field stayed in, so the AEs were left out. American Buffalo (Chapel Royal - Tuesday Prayer by Holy Bull) was favored. Hope Still Springs (Corinthian - Restored Hope by He's Bad) was 5-1, and looked good on the track. The start was fairly good, although American Buffalo broke outward a bit. Raytessa (Greeley's Galaxy - Show the Mark by Miner's Mark) took the early lead, flanked by Freudian Therapist (Freud - Jazzy Discovery by Regal Discovery) and Hepatologist (Grand Slam - Absolute Patience by Rakeen). Raytessa blew the first turn, and took Freudian Therapist and Hepatologist with him. This left the lead to Mike and Rob (Bob and John - Acquired Taste by Scarlet Ibis), who was joined by Freudian Therapist and Mia Poppy (Forest Wildcat - Fiddlers Song by Songandaprayer). Hope Still Springs managed to avoid all the chaos, and secured a good position just off the speed. Mike and Rob continued to lead, with Mia Poppy right there. American Buffalo began to get involved, along with Ampersand (City Zip - Graeme Central by Graeme Hall). Hope Still Springs moved up, and coming between horses was Disco On (Disco Rico - Chanton by Gregorian). He was finishing fastest, and got the win at 52-1. Hope Still Springs finished well, but had to settle for second, with Mia Poppy hanging on to third. Watch the Replay.

Silver Arch Makes a Run

All 11 ran on the fast track. First-timer Soul of Hollywood (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Hollywood Gold by Mr. Prospector) was the early choice, but Flame Run (Hard Spun - Swept Away by Mystery Storm) was favored at post time. Soul of Hollywood looked good in the paddock, and Flame Run made a favorable appearance. Silver Arch (Silver Wagon - Heyam by Unreal Zeal) caught my eye, and I was liking Simply Dashing (Discreet Cat - Untarnished by Unbridled) a bit on the track. Flame Run was kicking up her heels. Simply Dashing and Tiz A' Greeley (Tiznow - Golly Greeley by Mr. Greeley) were off slowly. Lady Lo Lo (Littleexpectations - Lady Marilyn by Pleasant Colony) had a brief lead, but she was quickly passed by Soul of Hollywood and Cal Dela Casa (Limehouse - Two Fer Place by Out of Place). Flame Run was not far off in fourth. Soul of Hollywood continued to lead, while running off the rail. Silver Arch started to make her move on the outside. She flew on by, as Soul of Hollywood began to weaken. Also finishing well was longshot Sweetheartsforever (Langfuhr - M'Lady Chestnut by Horse Chestnut (SAF)). She claimed second, but couldn't catch Silver Arch, who crossed the wire three lengths in front. Soul of Hollywood held third over Scat Cat Fever (Scat Daddy - Super Natascha by Pulpit), who was getting involved at the end. Flame Run weakened to 6th. Watch the Replay.

Sugar Street (Fusaichi Pegasus - Quinn by Theatrical (IRE)) and Julie Bugs (Bernstein - Brocatelle (GB) by Green Desert) were scratched, and the track was fast. Shesabronxbomber (Afleet Alex - Beppin by Forest Wildcat) was favored, and Silent Sister (Corinthian - Salceda by Forestry) was almost 10-1. Our Domain (Cherokee Rap - Domain by Kris S.) broke well, but Little Mary E (Belong to Me - Out of Options by Cohiba) used her rail spot to get to the front. Silent Sister was off ok, but lost a few places. Shesabronxbomber and Sharp Exchange (Exchange Rate - Music Way by Kris S.) were chasing Little Mary E early. Our Domain was racing wide, but she was making up ground, and was soon in second. Our Domain swept by Little Mary E on the turn. Lion D N A (Lion Heart - Too Many Holes by Touch Gold) moved by as well, as Little Mary E began to retreat. Our Domain led the way into the stretch. Shesabronxbomber took a run at her, but came up short. Diva's Diamond (Crafty Shaw - Diamond Diva by Glitterman) chased this pair home in third, as Lion D N A weakened to fourth. It was a long way back (16+ lengths) to Silent Sister in fifth. Watch the Replay.

Great Day for Hard Spun yesterday. Awesome race, I was yelling come on Yvete! Come on Yvete, but the winner was very impressive and no one was catching her. I am very surprised they did not mention both show and place were daughters of Hard Spun.  Also, saw the Defy Gravity win. Funny, This horse and another in the race, Bluegrass Atitude were MSW race at Pimlico where Filare L'oro was Hard Spuns first runner and they both finished in front of her. Bluegrass Atitude was hung wide the whole race and could not get up to place. (I met her owners at Pimlico) I would like to congratulate Defy Gravity's breeder on a job well done....(you know who you are) and if you read this, I Still think you should send Quickest to Big Brown.

Hi Chris, saw/bet interesting maiden win/race at PARX 9th race Saturday, firster "Major Highway" was impressive, wasn't sure of sire "Irish Road", but the gray ran away and later read that sire IR was a early winner as well, in PA now and won for Pletcher at SPA in Aug 2003 to break former win record held by Veitch. Like this horse and Unbridled Song offspring, just wondering if you have any thoughts on IR? Don

Don - I wasn't familiar with Irish Road either. But, I looked him up. From 3 small crops to race, he's had 9 winner from 18 starters. No sw as yet. This year, he's had 2 winners from 4 starters.

I remember Irish Road, but then I have a thing for Unbridleds Song offsrping. Fragile they may be, but usually talented horses. He is a striking Gray with lots of white, Much like Rockport Harbor. He throw's a lot of white in his foals too. Look at the Photo of Irish Roadie. White past his hocks and on his belly, looks rather skinny to me though.
