Optimizer (English Channel - Indy Pick by A. P. Indy) was wide for most of the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs. He was weaving a bit in the stretch, and appeared to be tiring, but started running again once passed by eventual third-place finisher Timely Tally, and finished a decent fourth. The winner was Gemologist (Tiznow - Crystal Shard by Mr. Prospector), who outfinished favorite Ever So Lucky. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Kentucky Jockey Club here.

Glinda the Good (filly; Hard Spun - Magical Flash by Miswaki) was in a decent spot early in the Golden Rod Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs, and got all the way up to third, but weakened and finished 6th. The winner was On Fire Baby (Smoke Glacken - Ornate by Gilded Time), by an impressive 6 1/4 lengths. The Beat Goes On

Atlantic Titan (Stormy Atlantic - Lokoya by Woodman) was scratched, along with AE Train Heist (Silver Train - Haftu by Forestry). AE entrant Lightly Wound (Hard Spun - Frolicing by Royal Academy) got to run. Radiant Talent (Johannesburg - Dignified Diva by Meadowlake) was the heavy favorite. Goingoingone (Corinthian - Clifton Bay by Gone West) was 15-1, In the Beat (Street Sense - Rhythmical Beat by Fusaichi Pegasus) was 25-1, Lightly Wound was 29-1, and Harvard (Hard Spun - You Again by Wild Again) was 88-1. Favorite Radiant Talent was on edge in the post parade, dumping jockey Shaun Bridgmohan. I liked Goingongone and In the Beat. There was a little bumping at the start, with Captain Crash (Intimidator - Adios La Cucaracha by Storm Cat), Barnyard Fiddler (Orientate - Erinyes by Seeking the Gold), and Devoted Wildcat (Forest Wildcat - Devotedness by Anet) getting the worst of it. Radiant Talent emerged with the lead. But, Mr Saturday (Any Given Saturday - After Tea by Boston Harbor), Risky Recovery (Congrats - Scarlet Gold by Unbridled's Song), and Goingoingone were keeping him company. Radiant Talent and Mr Saturday continued to battle. Making up move from the back of the pack was In the Beat. He came through on the inside to grab the victory from Radiant Talent, who had to settle for second, with Mr Saturday holding third. Goingoingone tired to 7th, Lightly Wound stalled in 8th, and Harvard was never comfortable, running greenly, and trailed most of the race. In the Beat is winner number 11 for Street Sense. Strait to the Winner's Circle

All 8 ran on the Polytrack. Any Given Royal (Any Given Saturday - Really Royal by Unreal Zeal) was favored. Strait of Dover (English Channel - Bahrain Star by Danzig), who was disqualified from the win in his last start, was 5-1, and Courageous Ruler (Corinthian - La Gueriere by Lord At War (ARG)) was 4-1. I liked the look of Tom Joy (Giacomo - Verne's Lady by Silver Deputy) and Brandyman (Aragorn (IRE) - Oberon's Girl by Coronado's Quest). But, Strait of Dover looked good as well. Brandyman set the pace, encouraged by Osisko (Eve of the Tiger - Deli Cat by Bold Ruckus). Strait of Dover stalked the pace from the rail. Brandyman opened up his lead a bit in the stretch, but Strait of Dover was commencing a rally. He wore down the pacesetter to score a 1 1/2 length win. Brandyman was clear in second, Osisko claimed third, and favorite Any Given Royal had to settle for fourth. Courageous Ruler did not run much finishing 7th. So, for the second time in a row, Strait of Dover crossed the line in front. But, this time there was no disqualification, and he is now an official winner. He is winner number 9 for English Channel. Junebugred Gets the Term

All 12 ran on the fast track. Ventura Bar (Officer - Ventura Hotel by Grand Slam) was favored. Common Bond (Hard Spun - Pilfer by Deputy Minister) was almost 3-1, Junebugred (Corinthian - Dixie Melody by Dixieland Band) was 8-1, Thessalonian (Corinthian - Clear Destiny by Deputy Minister) was 28-1, and Hear the Word (Corinthian - Finery by Lear Fan) was 37-1.Term Loan (City Place - Appella by World Appeal) was really keyed up in the paddock, perhaps signalling that he would be on the lead. Thessalonian is quite an eye-catcher. Dance With Monarch (Monarchos - My Angel Dancer by Fusaichi Pegasus) outbroke the field, but was soon overtaken. Term Loan went to the lead, but he had plenty of company, with Thessalonian, Junebugred, The Great Gonzo (Harlan's Holiday - Be a Prospector by Mr. Prospector) and Situational Ethics (Broken Vow - Ayla Bella by Touch Gold) all involved. Thessalonian went up to engage Term Loan, with Junebugred watching this duel in third. Hear the Word and Ventura Bar were also in the mix. Junebugred moved into contention on the turn, and then hit the front. Term Loan fought back, but Junebugred pulled away in the end for a length victory. There was a gap back to favorite Ventura Bar in third. Thessalonian weakened to fourth, Common Bond claimed fifth, and Hear the Word tired to 6th. Junebugred is winner number 17 for Corinthian. Callmenancy a Winner

Only the AEs were scratched, leaving 10 on the firm turf. Drama Drama (Lemon Drop Kid - Sixty Rocketts by Belong to Me) and Angel Terrace (Ghostzapper - Another Storm by Gone West) both received attention from the bettors, with Angel Terrace the slight favorite at post time. Cerce Cay (Hard Spun - Timely Legend by Navorone) was almost 7-1. She looked good in the prelims. The load was a bit of a adventure, with Blue Bubble King (Dayjur - Calico Cat by Riverman) the main culprit. Cerce Cay emerged from the pack to take the lead. However, Royal Fury (Langfuhr - Miss Chapin by Royal Academy) did not let her get too far in front. Cerce Cay continued to hold Royal Fury off, but a fresh challenge was coming from Callmenancy (Political Force - Mayan Milagra by Menifee). Cerce Cay fought back, but she couldn't hold off Callmenancy, who took it by 1 1/2 lengths. Royal Fury held third. So, for the second straight race Cerce Cay had to settle for second. There should be a win out there for her soon. Callmenancy is the 13th winner for Political Force. Watch the Replay.

Tapajo Taps to the Win

Clear Danger (Hard Spun - Present Danger by Souvenir Copy) was scratched, along with AEs Hot Roots (Indian Charlie - Mother by Lion Hearted), Twitter Pie (Harlan's Holiday - Bird Chatter by Birdonthewire), and Sister C (Holy Bull - In My Hat by Tale of the Cat). AE Orchid Alley (Flower Alley - Lan Kwai Fong (AUS) by Bluebird) got to run. Tapajo (Tapit - Sleep Away Camp by Bertrando) ws favored by a smidge over Swaythisaway (Scat Daddy - Oscillate by Seattle Slew). Toxis (Street Sense - Instinct by Thunder Gulch) was 5-1, Run for Love (Corinthian - Lily's Affair by Colonial Affair) was 11-1, and Cat Sense (Street Sense - Bluster by Storm Cat) was 28-1. I liked first-timers Bluegrass Rumor (Bluegrass Cat - Reason to Talk by Sabona) and Summer Sonnet (Macho Uno - Summer Symphony by Summer Squall) on the track. Perfectcourt (Doneraile Court - Perfect Lady by Carson City) was off slowly, Tapajo went to the front. Enthalpy (Bluegrass Cat - Tizsweet by Cee's Tizzy) set after Tapajo. Toxis and Cat Sense were not far off. Tapajo continued to lead. Summer Sonnet began to make up some ground, and Toxis was still right there. Toxis was gaining late, but he couldn't catch Tapajo, who won by a length. Toxis was secure in second, a length clear of Summer Sonnet. Run for Love finished 7th, and Cat Sense tired to 9th. It was an Ambush

Travel Advisory (Stormy Atlantic - Fire of Freedom by Street Cry (IRE)) was scratched, allowing AE Wasn't Me (Dixieland Band - Indy Trouble by A.P. Indy) to complete the 12 horse field. Indian Ambush (Indian Charlie - Never a No Hitter by Kris S.) was favored. Gameday News (Corinthian - Summer Scene by Belong to Me) was almost 10-1. He looked decent out there. I was liking Tetradrachm (Badge of Silver - Igraine by Cherokee Run) a little bit. Flatter Creek (Flatter - Bride by Unbridled) looked like he might need a race. He was off slowly. My Wahoo (Flatter - Batidas by Siphon (BRZ)) went to the front, with Indian Ambush and Battle Hardened (Giant's Causeway - Jen's Fashion by Northern Fashion) up close. Gameday News was around mid-pack early. Indian Ambush took the lead after a half, as My Wahoo retreated. Battle Hardened was still there, and Najjaar (Jazil - Hasheema (IRE) by Darshaan (GB)) began to advance. Indian Ambush maintained a steady advantage, and came home 2 lengths in front. Battle Hardened held off Najjaar for second. There was a gap back to the others, led by Tuckers Point (Birdstone - Shesanoactor by Noactor). Gameday News ran evenly, finishing 5th. Watch the Replay.
