The Key was Sandy Gal

The AEs were scratched, including English Notes (English Channel - Notable Career by Avenue of Flags), and the turf was firm for the 12 that ran. Dolce Far Niente (Forestry - Stolen Prayer by Songandaprayer) took the early money, but Bren's Friend (Act of Duty - Polnailish by Polish Numbers) was favored at post time. This Ones for Jodi (Street Sense - Stoic by Forestry) was almost 14-1. I liked Green Tea Icecream (Orientate - Ice Cream Cone by Seeking the Gold) and Starship Godiva (City Zip - Top o' the Cat by Storm Cat) in the post parade, although the cameras seemed to show more of the ponies than the horses in the race. Latin Eyes (Spanish Steps - Miss Valid Match by Valid Appeal) hesitated at the start, giving the rest a several lengths head start. This Ones for Jodi was off slowly as well. Dolce Far Niente and Sandy Key Gal (Put It Back - Atlantic Frost by Stormy Atlantic) went for the front, with Bren's Friend just off of these. Starship Godiva was involved for a time, but then retreated. Sandy Key Gal pulled away from Dolce Far Niente in the stretch, and scored a 2 1/4 length victory. Bren's Friend came wide to nip Dolce Far Niente for second. Imperial Strike (Imperialism - Satin and Silver by Silver Ghost) was gaining late to pick up the fourth spot, as experienced runners filled the superfecta. This Ones for Jodi made up some ground to take fifth, the highest finish among the first-timers. I thought this was a decent performance for This Ones for Jodi, as I wasn't expecting much at this short of a distance. Watch the Replay.

I love this blog and cant wait until next year. I just want to say thank you for all the hard work you do pulling this together for us maiden watch fans. It must be an enormous amount of work.

Do you think Hard Spun can hold onto that Freshman sire lead? I really hope so. I have loved him since the day he stepped foot on the track. He has so much heart.

I must say Scat Daddy has really surprised me. He is doing very well at stud and expect he will bring in better mares now that he has had such a good showing from his first crop. I love his confirmation photo, He reminds me of KingMambo physically.

There are lot's of interesting two yr olds coming our way in 2012. I am really excited about the first crops of Big Brown, Curlin, HenrytheNavigator, Showing Up and Midnight Lute. There are also many really good mares with interesting foals this coming year too, including Rags to Riches HenrytheNavigator colt, Peeping Fawns Galileo filly,

Zarkava has a filly by Dalakhani who is two in 2012, Dreaming of Anna's Street Cry filly, Ouija Board has a Galileo filly, Smuggler has a Giants Causeway colt, Megahertz has a Dynaformer filly, Sightseek has an Awesome Again colt. Some of these are in Europe but I bet we hear from them toward the late summer and fall of 2012.

I am really dissapointed that so many of our recent Stakes quality and Champion mares are in Japan now. It's practically impossible to keep track of their offspring, makes me sad that we are going to miss them.

Criminal Type - Thank you for your kind comments.

I think the Freshman sire race is going to come down to the wire. Scat Daddy has more NA runners, and that might give him the edge. I haven't been surprised by Scat Daddy's success, but I have been a little surprised by his turf success. I wouldn't have expected so many to run on the turf. It may have been because some had early turf wins, so more were tried on the surface. Versatility certainly helps when pursuing a stallion title. Of course, the Hard Spuns can run on the turf as well.

Next year's vote for stallions to follow will be interesting. As you say, there are a number of big names coming up. What about The Green Monkey? Actually, might be interesting to follow him, and he doesn't have a huge number of offspring.

So true! Smarty Jones also had very good turf offspring, my top 2yr filly "Agrave Kiss" (LionHeart) wond again impressively at big A yesterday, she is really spectacular so far.

I am hoping that Hard Spun is first. I really enjoyed watching him race and am glad he is doing well. So is English Channel who I also liked as a race horse.

I am also looking forward to next year's new sires.  I think I will pass on The Green Monkey <vbg>..but hope that the Big Brown's and Henrythenavigator's do well.

The Green Monkey would have to be a huge success in the breeding shed to offset that 16 million dollar price tag. He certainly didnt earn it back on the track.
