Firehouse Red Fires Off a Win

Cherishd Obsession (Corinthian - Silver Wench by Silver Ghost) was scratched, allowing AE entrant Myriad (Ghostzapper - Christy Love by Unbridled) to run on the good turf. Firehouse Red (Arch - My Rachel by Horse Chestnut (SAF)) was favored. Kicker (Hard Spun - Tenga by Mr. Prospector) was 5-1, and Queen of the Waves (English Channel - Clearly a Queen by Lucky North) was 7-1. I was liking Just Like Juliet (Shakespeare - Biding Time by Seeking the Gold) in the post parade, and Queen of the Waves made a decent appearance. Firehouse Red was late to the post parade, after a shoe repair in the paddock. Sweet Flattery (Bob and John - Tender Years by Regal Classic) broke on top, but Myriad went by to set the pace with Sweet Flattery chasing. Secret Information (Out of Place - Belle a Versailles by Beau Genius) was in third early. Queen of the Waves moved into contention, and Kicker made up some spots as well. Sweet Flattery moved up to challenge Myriad, but coming on the outside was Firehouse Red. She went on by for a 3/4 length win. Sweet Flattery outfinished Myriad for the place spot, Queen of the Waves took fourth, and Kicker was fifth. Watch the Replay.

Storming Through the Desert

All 11 ran on the Polytrack. First-timer Twill Be (Tiznow - Little Bonnet by Coronado's Quest) took the early money, but another debuter, Tigerdude (Aptitude - Tigresa by Tejano) was favored at post time by just a few ticks over Hard Bourbon (Hard Spun - Leona's Knight by Suave Prospect), who looked good. Tigerdude was showing a little attitude, and Last Ring (Sunday Break (JPN) - School Ring by Private School) appeared to be auditioning to be a bronc. I was liking Jasizzle (Jazil - Silky Bay by Stravinsky) on the track. Cane Swagger (Speightstown - Lady of Wicklow by Turkoman), Real Luck (Distorted Humor - Diplomat Lady by Forestry), and Jasizzle were involved early. Hard Bourbon was in mid-pack. Jasizzle and Real Luck continued to duel, with Desert Doc tracking the pacesetters. He came rolling late on the outside to snag the win by a neck over Jasizzle and Real Luck. Hard Bourbon weakened and finished 11th (last). Watch the Replay.
