Z Dager Strikes Sir Bond

Zellers (Distorted Humor - Half Queen by Deputy Minister) was scratched, leaving 7 to run on the sloppy track. Sir Bond (Street Sense - Emmaus by Silver Deputy) opened at 1-2. He drifted up a bit from there, but was still the clear choice at post time. Congenial (Pulpit - Charming N Lovable by Horse Chestnut (SAF)) looked good to me. Z Dager (Mizzen Mast - Fees Waived by Wavering Monarch) was getting a little rambunctious on the track. Hero of Order (Sharp Humor - Ocean Sprite by Ocean Crest) and Z Dager went for the early lead, with Congenial tracking in third. Sir Bond was near the back early. Donoharm (Lemon Drop Kid - Tasso Run by Cherokee Run) made a big early move, and came between horses to grab the lead. Sir Bond began to move. Z Dager came back to life on the inside and took a short lead. Sir Bond was coming on the outside, but Z Dager outfinished him, securing a 1 1/4 length win. Sir Bond was three lengths clear of Congenial, while Beer Garden (Tapit - Oldcourt Rose by Mining)  got going late to pick up fourth. Congenial seemed to be climbing on the track, and should be one to watch next time. Watch the Replay.

Raving About the Win

There were no scratches and the track was fast. Ravenesque (Dance With Ravens - Gold Scammer by Gold Tribute) was favored, and Hardly Patient (Hard Spun - With Patience by With Approval) was 43-1. I thought that she looked like she might need a race. I was liking Lil Punch (Two Punch - El's Red Cat by Forest Wildcat) in the paddock. Thrice Nice (Hat Trick (JPN) - Silken Purse by Devil's Bag) was given a vigorous warmup. I thought that she might show some early speed. The start was good. Hello Dallai (Buddha - Annie Amelia by Polish Numbers) went to the front, chased by Lil Punch and Ravenesque. Thrice Nice was at the back early, and Hardly Patient wasn't far in front of her. Lil Punch took the lead, but Ravenesque was coming. She swept by for a 3 1/2 length win. Lil Punch held second over a fast-closing Thrice Nice. Hardly Patient didn't run much, finishing 9th. Watch the Replay.
