Cherishd Obsession Gets Out-Psyched

There were no scratches, and the track was good. Fast Bobbi J (Bob and John - Fast Delivery by Little Missouri) was the early pick, but Trading Paint (Indian Charlie - Nesselrode by Lemon Drop Kid) was the slight choice at post time. Cherishd Obsession (Corinthian - Silver Wench by Silver Ghost) was 5-1, Toxis (Street Sense - Instinct by Thunder Gulch) was 8-1, Run for Love (Corinthian - Lily's Affair by Colonial Affair) was 34-1, and Extra Cool (Street Sense - Coolwind by Forest Wildcat) was 102-1. In the paddock, Cherishd Obsession looked good, and Ocean Bertie (Posse - Get Ready Bertie by More Than Ready) caught my eye. On the track, I was liking Toxis. Cherishd Obsession was a little reluctant to load. The start was even. Run for Love and Cherishd Obsession went for the lead, with Run for Love winning that battle. Toxis and Extra Cool were at the bad early. Cherishd Obsession got by Run for Love after 6 furlongs, as that filly began to fade. Psycho Chick (Thunder Gulch - Daylight Dancer by Colony Light) moved into second, and set after Cherishd Obsession. Ocean Bertie and Toxis were reaching contention. Cherishd Obsession continued to lead, but she drifted out, cutting off Psycho Chick. There was also trouble behind, as Ocean Bertie drifted in, impeding Toxis and Trading Paint. Cherishd Obsession crossed the line 1/2 length in front of Psycho Chick, followed by Ocean Bertie, Toxis, and Trading Paint. But, the inquiry sign went up immediately. After a look by the stewards, Cherishd Obsession was disqualified from first and placed second, and Ocean Bertie was disqualified from third and placed fifth. On the negative side, Cherishd Obsession is still a maiden, but on the plus side, Toxis was placed third. Extra Cool was 9th, and Run for Love finished 10th (last). Watch the Replay.
