Winning Like a Wildcat

The track was fast, and all seven ran. Rockin Boogie (Rockport Harbor - Only Seventeen by Exploit) was favored, and Hardened Wildcat (Hard Spun - Wild Snitch by Forest Wildcat) was 7-2. I was liking Le Bernardin (Bernardini - La Rosa by Wild Again) in the paddock. The favorite did not impress in the paddock, but looked better on the track. Hardened Wildcat warmed up well, although I thought he might need more distance. The start was good for everyone except Wicked Irish (Put It Back - Ecton's Appeal by Ecton Park), who hit the gate and walked out, trailing the field by many lengths. Rockin Boogie went to the lead, with Wild Target (Kafwain - Off the Charts by A.P. Indy) after him. Hardened Wildcat had a nice spot in third on the rail. He was sent after Rockin Boogie, and that opponent offered little resistance. Hardened Wildcat pulled away for a 3 1/4 length win. Rockin Boogie was more than 4 in front of Wild Target, who held third. Entrymates Le Bernardin and Original Art (Distorted Humor - La Galerie (ARG) by Southern Halo) finished a head apart in fourth and fifth, with Municipal Finance (Flatter - Dynalook by Dynaformer) 6th, and Wicked Irish, who never recovered from his slow beginning, 7th. Springing to Victory

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Spring Hill Farm (Smart Strike - Colonial Minstrel by Pleasant Colony) was the heavy favorite. Al Aqsa (Invasor (ARG) - Khalila by Elusive Quality) was 10-1. Quick Wit (Sharp Humor - Thank the Academy by Royal Academy) made a good impression in the walking ring. Al Aqsa, like many of the Invasors, is a big guy. He was a little tentative when first stepping onto the track, but looked better as he warmed up. Bird Tale (Birdstone - Tale of the Queen by Tale of the Cat) was looking good on the track, but so was Spring Hill Farm. Al Aqsa hopped at the start, and spotted the field several lengths. Favorite Spring Hill Farm went right to the front with Sir Flanagan (Unbridled's Song - Philly's Philly by A.P. Indy) after him. Quick Wit made up some ground, and was the only one with a chance to catch Spring Hill Farm. But, Spring Hill Farm spurted away again, winning by 6 1/4 lengths. Quick Wit was well clear off the others, who were led by Grouse (Street Cry (IRE) - Mood Indigo by Dixieland Band). Al Aqsa was able to pass 2 horses after his horrible start, finishing 6th. Najjaar Goes by Them All

Najjaar (Jazil - Hasheema (IRE) by Darshaan (GB)) was the heavy favorite. Gameday News (Corinthian - Summer Scene by Belong to Me) was 9-2. Mucho Macho Uno (Macho Uno - Wage a Penny by Valid Wager) was announced as a new gelding, and Double Rah Rah (Rahy - Double's Lass by Mr. Leader) was displaying some spunk going to the track. Followyourdaddy (Dehere - Just Cozy by Cozzene) kept catching my eye. He broke on top, but Double Rah Rah overtook him to set the pace. However, he was a little rank. Gameday News was in a good spot at the back of the leading group. Double Rah Rah continued to lead, but Master Rick (Master Command - Whata Gem by Maria's Mon) went after him. Gameday News and Followyourdaddy were also getting closer. Master Rick hit the front, with Followyourdaddy, Double Rah Rah, and Gameday News all finishing well. Flying on the outside was Najjaar, who went by everyone for a neck win. Followyourdaddy outfinished Master Rick for second, and Gameday News settled for fourth. Watch the Replay.

Manero Shows the Way

Beijoca (Dynaformer - Fazenda by Machiavellian) and Another Romance (Saint Anddan - Love To by Friendly Lover) were scratched from the main field (Another Romance runs on Sunday, see below), as well as the AEs and the MTO. The turf was firm. Pearl In The Sand (Footstepsinthesand (GB) - Champagne Toni (IRE) by Second Empire (IRE)), making her U.S. debut, was favored. Hookipa (Corinthian - Rutledge Affair by Colonial Affair)  was 43-1. Misspartypants (Sweet Return (GB) - Dear by Island Whirl) made a favorable first impression, and longshot Oaks Lily (Badge of Silver - En Silence by Rahy) looked good to me. Daddy's Kiss (Scat Daddy - Eliza's Kiss by Sejm) got loose on the track, but they caught her rather quickly and she stayed in the race. They loaded her without the rider. Manero (Disco Rico - Gracefully Done by Deputy Commander) outbroke the field and went to the front. She had company from Misspartypants, Flora (Mr. Greeley - Swap Fliparoo by Exchange Rate), and Daddy's Kiss. Misspartypants took a brief lead, but Manero reclaimed the top spot. She pulled free in the stretch for a 1 1/2 length win. Pearl in The Sand and Oaks Lily were both closing, finishing a neck apart in second and third. Daddy's Kiss hung around for fourth. Hookipa was off slowly, and stayed near the back, finishing 9th. Watch the Replay.

Winning Proudly

The track was fast, and there were no scratches. Boudicca (Hard Spun - Taft Lil Queen by Irish Open) was favored. There was a bit of a scramble for the early lead. Dafina (Awesome Again - Belle's Appeal by Valid Appeal) took advantage of her rail position to snag it. But, Boudicca and Proud Pearl (Proud Citizen - Pacific Spell by Langfuhr) were right with her. Dafina shook free from her rivals to lead by several lengths. Boudicca began to retreat, but Proud Pearl was still chasing, and Theatricality (Purim - Theatrical Review by Theatrical (IRE)) made up some ground. Dafina was still on top as they entered the stretch, but company was coming. Proud Pearl and Theatricality moved as a team by Dafina, with Proud Pearl, the full sister to Proud Spell, getting the win by 3/4 lengths. Two Hearts in One (Outflanker - Teresa's Angel by Valley Crossing) came running to overtake Dafina for third. Boudicca weakened to 6th. Watch the Replay.

It is always exciting when a full sibling to a champion wins on his / her own merits. Proud Pearl looks like she'll mature into a nice race filly. Proud Spell was one of my favorites of her generations and a full sis to her is exciting.

Also exciting to see Varisimo starting her career as well as Octave was also one of my favorites and Varisimo is a full sis to her as well.

Love the pedigree on Nebraska! Of course I follow all of the Juddmonte horses and Street Cry's progeny naturally. Honest Lady herself was a champion and of course is a half to Empire Maker and dam of First Defense and Honest Pursuit. Toussaud, dam of Honest Lady was most definitely one of my favorite producers, as she gave us Empire Maker, Decarchy, Chester House, and Chiselling (by Woodman, by Mr. Prospector... am unsure of whatever happened to him). Truly miss her.

Should be a nice one to follow. Just added to my equibase.
