2012 Stallion Poll Update

I have closed the 2012 Stallion Poll, and the winners are: Curlin, Big Brown, Henrythenavigator, Midnight Lute, and TBD. I am going to create a new poll to determine the fifth stallion, because the votes were very close, and because some stallions were added to the poll late. I'll open the new poll on Monday or Tuesday. Until then, please look over the list and see if whether you believe any other stallions should be added. And, thanks for voting!

January 19 Results

Some of the replays were not working last night, but I left the links in in case it was a temporary outage. I'll check on them tomorrow.

Stakes Result

Hard Mystery (filly; Hard Spun - Summer Rainbow by Summer Squall) stalked the early pacesetters in the Biogio's Rose Stakes at Aqueduct, and then hit the front, getting the jump on favorite Bourbonstreetgirl (Langfuhr - Amaretta by Woodman) to outfinish that opponent by 2 3/4 lengths. Watch the Replay. Hard Mystery now has 2 wins and 2 seconds in 5 starts, with earnings of $77,830. She is the fourth stakes winner for Hard Spun.

Stealing Away

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Big John B (Hard Spun - Baldomera by Doneraile Court) was the early favorite, but Stealcase (Lawyer Ron - Steal the Show by Cat Thief) was the choice when they broke. Big John B went off at 4-1. I was liking Slamit (Grand Slam - Excedius by Seattle Dancer) a bit early, and Windsurfer (Speightstown - Surf Light by Malibu Moon) in the warmup. The start was good. Big Creek (Indian Charlie - Major Idea by Cherokee Run) got the lead from his rail position. Slamit was with him, and Big John B was not far off. The pack was pretty tight. Big Creek, Slamit, and Big John B continued in the front, with Windsurfer getting involved as well. Slamit began to retreat, as Stealcase came on from the back. Windsurfer went by to take the lead, taking Stealcase with him. Those two left the others behind, with Stealcase getting up late for a 1 1/2 length win. It was a long way back, 8 1/4 lengths, to Big Creek in third. Big John B weakened to fourth. Watch the Replay.

Spanish Officer Passes Bye Bye

Warrioroftheroses (A.P. Warrior - Miss Savannah Rose by Strategic Mission) was the only scratch, and the track was fast. Johnny La Rue (Harlan's Holiday - Moonlit Mistress by Deputy Minister) was favored, and he looked good in the paddock. Cytherean (Street Sense - Venusberg (ARG) by Southern Halo) received no attention from the bettors early, but went off at 2-1. Spanish Officer (Officer - Perilous Night by Coronado's Quest) made a good impression going to the track. First-timer Pass You Bye Bye (Rock Slide - Pie I'd by You and I) was taking some money, and had some spring in his step on the track. Wilhelm (Langfuhr - Lifes Passage by Caveat) was off slowly, the rest got away well. Pass You Bye Bye went to the lead, chased by Spanish Officer, and Tuscany's Express (M Eighty - Miss Tuscany by Allen's Prospect). Pass You Bye Bye continued to lead, as Cytherean moved up into third. Spanish Officer ran at Pass You Bye Bye, and wore that one down late for a 3/4 length win. Cytherean kept third over Johnny La Rue, who was compromised when the hole closed up on the insdie. Watch the Replay.

Square Market Value

The turf was good, and only the AEs, including Street Fantasy (Street Sense - Rich Fantasy by Richter Scale), were scratched. Beautiful Affair (Rock Hard Ten - Beau Blush by Rahy) was favored, and Spun Ribbon (Hard Spun - Take the Ribbon by Chester House) was almost 22-1. Market Square (After Market - Banyan Street by Gone West) looked really nice in the paddock. On the track, Dazzletown (Speightstown - Dazzle by Slewacide) looked ready, and La Belle Cat (Tale of the Cat - La Belle Danse by Beau Genius) kept catching my eye. Market Square was a handful at the load, but they finally got her in. Sid's Kid (Smart Strike - Unbridled Sidney by Unbridled's Song) set the early pace, with Unbridled Birthday (Unbridled's Song - Hardy Har Har by Storm Cat) and Spun Ribbon up close. Sid's Kid continued to lead, but was green. Spun Ribbon was sticking close, and Market Square was making up ground. Market Square pulled away to a clear lead. Flying from the back Tola (Bluegrass Cat - Heart Warmer by Devil's Bag). She was gobbling up ground late, but came up a head short to Market Square. La Belle Cat and Part the Seas (Stormy Atlantic - Go Marching Thru by Smart Strike) were also going well late to take third and fourth. Spun Ribbon tired to 9th. Watch the Replay.
